    Enermax MODU 87+ EMG500AWT

    Hello there,

i got this power supply from Enermax, that was Dead until i removed that one cap. It is connected to 12 V and ground and it was completly shorting. Now my question would be, do i need to replace it and if, how do i get the value of it ?

Without the cap it turns on and runs just fine (stress tested for about 2 h with mainboard, cpu and gpu).

    best regards

Depends on its purpose. It it was a general purpose filter cap, probably not. If it was a decoupling cap for and IC, erratic behavior could result. It it was a timing cap then some function won’t work properly. I guess the point is that its purpose needs to be understood to know how essential it was.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.
