    Re: About network cards failures...

carefull, most laptops dont use magjacks - they use a seperate transformer.
post a foto of each side of the board near the connector.

Thanks for the warning!! I have two boards here from old acer laptops that have the black rectangular transformer, thats why I thought the Compaq has the transformer on the jack....
        Ok, here are the photos.
Well it seens to be a diferent laptop, mine is a PIII. It says N600c series pp2040. The squematic you've found looks like a pentiun 4.

I runaway Of P4's as far as I can .

            Re: About network cards failures...

Well, I already noticed that, I thought that the nic may be integrated on the chipset but I don't know. It doesn't have another board apart the power board that I removed for the photos. It is a 13" laptop very small for the age from my point of view. What you see in the photos is what it has, apart from the power board, the wifi card and the ram

              found this:

it says the network interface is optional on a mini-pci card.

My god, no you are God, I never imagined that, it has an Intel 2200bg wifi on the pci slot so I thought the Lan nic was damaged I'm going to look if I can find that mini pci lan card somewhere.
I never saw a thin like this...
