Btw, idiot question: is uf5408 the same as 1n5408 ? The datasheets are identical outside the "reverse recovery time" entry which doesn't exist for the 1n...I reckon UF means ultra-fast, while 1n is a general purpose rectifier....which is it ?

good spot, the UF series is indeed an Ultra-Fast version of the 1N series.
infact it is very handy to keep a few UF4007 in your spares box.
