    How Much :o

Well even though I had decided to replace my mobo etc. I thought it would be interesting to get a quote (local to Sydney Australia)

    AUD $432

    :o :o :o :o :o

I guess I will be throwing my old VP6

    what is that in usd?
    sounds like a bunch though.
you may be better off to study the methods of replacing the caps and get a kit.
if you really give up i would pay the shipping to get the board.
i can always use a spare to rebuild and keep on the shelf.

With the exchange rate today of 0.7 ish that equates to about US$300

      "A whole bunch" definitely.

As for the fate of this mobo, I need to check with a few friends about their abilities with a soldering iron, otherwise I would be happy to send it to a good home willing to pickup the shipping.

You got quoted A$432 to recap your VP6..haha.. that's a job.

I'm local to Sydney too, In Bexley. I've got the same problem.

Another guy on another forum - www.overclockers.com.au - got his components from farnell for $20 delived and the got the caps install by a guy in george st for $30. Total $50.

If your not interested in doing the recap, could i get your motherboard, i'd be happy to pick it up from you. Would give me a spare in case i stuff up my one.

Give me a call on 0422 396 559 or email me at mortus@optusnet.com.au

I know that some mfgs use gold printing on low ESR capacitors, and white printing on general purpose capacitors. That is probably why I've only seen caps with gold writing fail.

Well after finally extracting my mobo this is what I found

            all big caps are JACKCON
            15 x 1500uF 6.3v 10mm (gold printing on black)
            4 x 1000uF 16v 10mm (white printing on black)
            4 x 1000uF 16v 7.5mm (white printing on black)

            The replacement kit from badcaps.com

            15 x 1500uF 10v 10mm
            4 x 1000uF 16v 10mm
            4 x 1000uF 10v 10mm

Hummmmmmmm makes you wonder don't it.

If these were actually good caps, would the difference in voltage be causing the problems??

Anyway, this board is not going back in

So did you actually install the kit and it didn't work? Or did you just de-cap the board?

If your gonna through it out, i'd be interested in it, even just to practise my soldering.

Damn, if you're gonna trash a good VP6 that has merely bad caps, send it my way! I could always use another!
