What is this device these guys jam into their PSU's??

Enjoying the afternoon on the couch doing nuttn & watching youtube, I came across this device. I've seen this thing now as a 2 wire, a 3 wire and a 4 wire.
So far I couldn't find it on Ali. These guys jam that oscillator on the primary negative capacitor and to the mosfet (depending on what wire configuration), adjust voltage and off they go!

I can't imagine it working on complicated power supplies, but it got my interest in the moment.

it's a slave switching psu that needs DC input.
only good for the u.s. unless you want a big bang with 300v input limit

i suspect it's designed to fit into psu's that have a dead output.

      for the 29-3 module.
The problem using these modules is that the drive frequency that drives the power supply is not matched to the transformer/circuit requirement, also the issue with regulation and protection shutdown.

That is in line with with what I said earlier. It's for simple power supplies. I am aware of the 300VDC input limitation, but for a simple PSU who cares. Maybe I should be trying one of these in the Avaya or Nortel PSU's (just kidding).

Now budm went right to the cheese: not matched to the transformer, regulation and protection.
The most critical video of these was the one using only 2 wire hookup, having no feedback at all looks kind of dangerous.

not sure what you mean, the one at ali had an opto-isolator on it.

That Opto shown on the diagram on the unit is the existing Opto of the power supply you are trying to mod if it has one in the power supply you are trying to fit this Transformer driver into. That module is just a power transformer driver.
I wonder what the drive frequency is and what the minimum operating Voltage is.

watch this one. Only 2 wires are hooked up on the primary. One on the primary negative, the other on the gate of the mosfet, that's it.

Me too... kind of curious buying one to try to find out. Problem is that I have to find something to stick it in. That department is empty at the moment.

I thought it could be used to replace STK-730 linear regulators which are for the 130VDC rail in CRT TV's. It looks like 300VDC in, 110VDC out SMPS.

The transformer is way too small for the LCD TV "5-24V" version to have more than say 10W output. Weird some pictures show huge TO-264 mosfet but tiny tranny.

Maybe it's easier to plop one of these in instead of troubleshooting the TV's power supply?

I don't think it is a troubleshooting issue, rather being a parts availability issue.
