VIEWSONIC VG2030wm goes off after a while

i have this viewsonic 2030wm that goes off by itself and comes back only if i turn it off and back on.
i noticed that after i changed the display settings it stayed longer (17 minutes) and then went off.
a message kept saying for me to change the sttings to a higher resolution but that did not stop it it keeps going off.
is there something else i need to do on the settings?

Check that the PC isnt going to sleep? Turn the brightness down and see if it stays on longer? - perhaps that is what you did?

Hard to tell from the picture looks leaky unless it is just marker
If you have 5 other boards try another board first?
Try that board in another set?

Re: VIEWSONIC VG2030wm goes off after a while

not yet ,i am going to take the others apart and see if they work on this monitor, they are not the same model.
and the cap you know how they have like 4 indententations that form a cross in the top?
          its crushed on the top.
but i will try lowering the brightness like you suggested.
i'll get back with the results

Sorry thought all sets were the same - wouldnt bother trying unless the board is the same, go for changing the cap as a priority - surprised it works at all!!
Should be low esr but realise you may be limited as to what you can get hold of. If you think that set is going to be the best of the five perhaps "borrow"
just a cap off the set you think may be the worse one.

              ok,thank you selldoor,
i changed the cap ,is the same value, different voltage reading ,its the only one i could get.
it doesnt fit ,too tall,so i have the unit dissasemble waiting to see what happens

You are going to have to learn to give more information - you usually have it but you dont tell us which lengthens the thread making more difficult to follow.
When you say different voltage - you need to tell us so we dont have to ask
"what voltage" it can be one step higher possibly two but usually not lower.

Re: VIEWSONIC VG2030wm goes off after a while

the voltage rating printed, which i guess its the max rating this item is capable of working with.its labeled 1500 mf, 10 v,and i put a 1500 mf,25 v.
i think i have a different problem, the monitor only worked for 5 minutes and it went out, with the new cap.
i have backlight so its one of the 2 boards.
i took the other monitors apart and i am seeing if the boards are similar.
                  i'll keep you posted

Re: VIEWSONIC VG2030wm goes off after a while

                    the monitor its working now.
it has been on for 5 hours now,i replaced the 1500mfd ,10 v cap on the logic board ,and after that i set it to the lowest resolution on the screen configuration.
i am going to reverse that (set it back to a high resolution)and see if it goes off again.
i tell you guys ,i have learn a lot from you guys about monitors this few days i decided to start working in mine and jumped onto the other ones i had storaged because they were bad.

where is the fuse for the t-con board on a viewsonic 2021m?.i looked all over the board and can not find anything labeled F something.does it have one?
i am attaching pictures of the boards in it,but the t-con board doesnt come out too good .i guess its my old 12 megapix sony camara,i can not get a good close-up of things.

i will leave it on all night and see what happens.

Glad to hear, next time try using the hair dryer to heat up the caps for about 2~3 minutes, if the caps are not too far gone the unit may start functioning again.

                              thank you bud,
i will try that next time.
i am going to call this monitor FIXED.
IT WAS ON ALL NIGHT ,AND IT WAS STILL GOING STRONG AS OF 10:40 AM TODAY.
after reading on the different posts ,threads from you and other valuable info from the rest of the guys that pitched in,i used the shotgun approach and replaced all the small 10mf/16v caps, one 47mf/16v cap(which i think it was the culper) on the logic/main board.
they were showing some ac voltages like 1.6 ac v on the 3.3 test point ,and .139 acv on the 10 mf caps ,but to be honest i have been working on it for so long i just wanted fixed,so i went the easy way.
the 47 mfd cap read 54 mf out of the circuit which is more than 10% off tolerance.
the 10 mfd ones they all read 10 and 9 mfd .i used the FLUKE 79 METER on frequency and i was able to see this problems.
i am going to put back the 47 mfd cap back and see if i get the failure back.
                              THANK YOU EVERYBODY.AND KEEP POSTING!!!!

aortiz, is this the same monitor that you were asking about a "7c9l17-18l regulator" in another thread?

I posted a service manual for the VG2030wm in that thread if you need it.

                                    yes ,i believe so.
i was going to replace that component ,but i couldnt find it anywhere here in mexico under those numbers,so i replaced all the caps and it worked.
thank you any way,and i will keep that squematic so i can use it in the future if i need it.
