Conform Coatings Application On Motherboard /Circuit board

Hi Badcapers,
Would like to ask I'm having a few boards which some are memory modules PC100/PC133, motherboard from Acer Aspire V76M desktop system, wireless card and laptop memory modules which are not working properly likely due to minor shorts causing crashes on systems. Can any light conformal coatings usage in aerosol/spray mode be used on these circuits boards as a protective layer/film to prevent from dusty environment? What kind of brands available out there will be specialised for insulating boards against chemical or corrosive attack? THANK YOU..

The boards you describe will come with a con-formal coating already applied to protect the printed circuits and related equipment from their environment, that said if you have had to remove any of the coating to effect repairs then I have found Electrolube products quite useful in the past. In particular their Acrylic Coating and for better protection maybe Polyurethane Coating both can be obtained in aerosol form, KEEP the stuff away from and DO NOT APPLY to any bare or plated contacts such as edge line connectors or sockets for obvious reasons.

Will it be truly necessary to completely remove the existing coat on these memory module before even applying the new acrylic coat. What will happen if I don't remove the coatings as I don't have the necessary tools to do it?

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve here, if the con-formal coating is intact and you have not removed any of the material to effect repairs I am not sure why you would need to add another layer.

I am assuming that you have your computer equipment in a wet humid enviroment. Try keeping it in a room with plenty of cool air circulating so as moisture does not cause a problem. The best method to keep electrical contacts clean and rid of moisture in the air is to use a product similar to DeOxit D5 or ProGold. Must be safe to use on electronics.
