help for identify an smd diode

I need to identify the diode on attached image. is an SMD diode on damaged board.
As more wide question... there is a way to identify any smd component in a more or less simple way?
Every time that i need to identify some components with no schematics is a nightmare for me!

It might be a FM140-M ; or MSS1P4 (40v/1a) schottky diode
