        Re: Hakko desoldering gun help

no, there is no visible sensor.
thing is, to sense using impedence or with an inline thermocouple you need to sense when there is no power.
so i suspect the 8pin chip is a zero-crossing detector.

I would think you are right yes . I might just bite the bullet and get a new unit. FInding a gun to work on here is going to be like finding hens teeth I think . Such a shame . I really dont want to get rid of the iron because its by far the best Iron I`ve ever owned and i have a lot . I always think "i`ll upgrade my iron" and always end going back to my trusty 700 . Its just such a great iron . If you have any tips on maybe getting , or making , a controller for it , I would be all ears , you may have to speak slowly and in "idiot" but I`m very interested in giving it a go .

          Thanks again bud.

you can buy the original controller from china - but i wanted to custom a cheap solution.

if you want the origonal it was sam that got it.

                    actually hold off any purchase.
i have seen a 3rd party controller with an oled display that also drives a second iron with T12 inserts!
                    i'll hunt the link.
