    Dell XPS 9500 - LA-J191P

    Hello

I spilled water on my DELL XPS 15 9500 i7-10750H 4GB RHXRG laptop.
    Motherboard reference : LA-J191P

    I'm new to repair.

When it happened I disconnected the charger. Attempted to shut down but it seems it only went to sleep.

Opened the laptop, disconnected the battery.
Inside, only a very small portion of water found. 2, 3 drops total.
The rest was dried with towel from the outer case, on the keyboard.
I briefly blowed a fan from the outside to the keyboard, before reading online that it wasn't a good idea because it could further spread the water.

1 hour later, after first visual inspection:

    I attempted to restart it.
Laptop charger's led was on : solid, not blinking.
Front led (indicates state of charge) of laptop was blinking.
Maj led was blinking but black screen.
I don't know if fans were spinning. They don't always.
    I disconnected the battery again.

At this stage, what should I try to troubleshoot?

Spill was 2 days ago from now. Didn't restart it since and let it dry naturally.

In the meantime. I had a visual inspection of the board.
A few spots seems a bit white. I don't know if's related to water.
    Photos attached.

I have a few tools at my disposal : DMM, Oscilloscope. Stabilized PSU.

I don't have : Magnifying glass or microscope. No air gun.

I found the motherboard on a paid site.
I can post it here if it's allowed.

    Hi. Welcome to the forum.

    1) you have the schematics and perhaps the boardview files for this unit? Yes, please post them in the forum section where the schematics are posted.

    2) grab some Q-tips and if available, alcohol from a pharmacy. We use the stuff from Costco pharmacy. Almost anything similar will be fine. Dip the Q-tip in the alcohol (cap is good) and wipe that white residue off your logic board. We do not want the region to corrode over time. You can be liberal and pour more to wet this are with alcohol.

    Then wipe it dry.

When comfortable, try to power up. Post your results and/or issues (if any).

Most of the parts are surface mount so hot air tools are a must to repair such boards.

Take it one step at a time to move forward.

      Hello,

      1) I added the schematics here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...83#post1103383. I don't have the boardview.

      2) Will do.

After 48h of drying, the computer just rebooted properly. Quite a ride of stress but ended fine at the end.

      Thanks for the help !
