    Mystery ECS Motherboard?

Recently my ECS PC would not boot. Checked the battery and was fine. While had the PC open noticed some caps were bulging. Closer inspection did not find any signs of leakage or overheated components so hope there is no other damage.

Removed and checked the power supply but did not find any bulging or leaking caps or other problems.

All the ECS motherboard caps look like G LUXON while the Morex MXA-300 PTFN power supply has a mixture of Teapo and g luxon. The 2 largest caps are Teapo LXK 200V 680μF.

Have done some seaching and the closest motherboard photo I could find to mine is a Matsonic 8308E. http://www.pcper.com/amdmblegacy/ima...e-mb-small.jpg The major difference is that mine has 3 inductors in a row instead of 4 for the 8308E.

Am interested in any comments and would be glad to post some photos if there is any interest.

    Thanks

    Gene

    Re: Mystery ECS Motherboard?

The Teapo LXK 200V 680μF are the 'primaries'. They are on the AC line power.
Those caps rarely cause problems and rarely fail unless PSU has suffered a power surge.

In general Teapo in PSUs are fine.
If you have bad ones they probably went bad because of a bad G-Luxon.

If no Teapo are bloated then leave them alone.

G-Luxons should go on both board and in PSU.

      PCBONEZ,

      Thanks for the tips!

Took some photos and would like to post 2 jpgs. Each jpg is ~450 MB full size but if compress more significantly degrades the details.

Please tell me or provide a link if I missed a posting of how you posted the photos at https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=588

                willawake and Scenic,

Thanks for catching my typo should be ~450KB. Started with ~8MB RAW and compressed until could see detail problems. Still much larger than the motherboard photos I found http://images.google.com/images?q=ma...erboard&tab=qi

                  Scenic,

Thanks for the photo tips! Excellent details!

My 1st mystery mobo jpgs. Let me know if they need to be reshot to capture any important details.

                  Mystery Mainboard URL: http://www.img-share.com/view/2399

Closeup of bad caps URL: http://www.img-share.com/view/2400

Since http://www.img-share.com/ allows 10 MB Maximum Upload File Size is it possible to upload a number of small jpgs at once? If so how?

                  Thanks

                    Hmmmm...

Usually ECS puts a model number between 2 pci slots or something. Whats that mystery slot above the AGP? Nothing on the back?

If you really want to know what it is, get it running, put some version of Windows on it, and run CPU-Z. Should tell you what it is under mainboard.

                      370forlife,

"Usually ECS puts a model number between 2 pci slots or something." Agree, usually the model # is someplace. Will post a closeup of the PCI area and the only ECS stickers I could find.

"Whats that mystery slot above the AGP?" For the 56K modem that came with the mobo.

"If you really want to know what it is, get it running, put some version of Windows on it, and run CPU-Z. Should tell you what it is under mainboard"

Thanks for the CPU-Z tip! http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php Will check it out.

Normally I have used Everest Home and SIW for this info.

Am trying to get the mobo info by inspection since the bad caps are bulging and do not want to damage any other components.

                          Re: Mystery ECS Motherboard?

                          that's some odd version of a K7SEM.
most versions have the battery located over the AGP slot and a DIL socket BIOS.
                          but it's definitely a K7SEM.

looks like a cut-in-half version of the K7S5A (but only with SD-RAM slots)

maybe like kikkoman said a K7SEM.. never seen that board.. only crappy K7S5As

                                    also sold with a soldered-in Duron 800MHz as "ECS Pro 1300+" ...

PcChips used to sell a lot of boards de-branded in a white box so that third parties could slap their own stickers on it and call it their own brand.

seems they all use the same design.
                                        e.g. here:
                                        http://sh.beareyes.com.cn/2/lib/2002...0020731230.htm

ECS uses different PCB colors and slightly changed layout in different versions, and sometimes the VRM section isn't fully populated.

maybe PCChips and ECS working together? what an unholy alliance.

edit: guess i was too slow.

@scenic: the K7S5A is a miracle. it works! for something that crappy it even works surprisingly well.
