when there was solder on them ( bridged) u got 5 volts ?

      if so:

      voltage on q26 pin 4 ?
      R270 is 102k ?

        5.12V when bridged.

Q26 pin 4 is in post 110, will have to test R270 when I have some more free time.

r270 should be the one near pq206 mark. check value (without power ofcourse) and also voltage both side of that resistorwhen powered on.

            39.3 k ohms across R270
            37.4 k ohms pin1 to ground
            8.43 k ohms pin2 to ground

            R270
            pin1 - 18.97V
pin2 - 3.373V when not beeping, flashes between 3.373V and around 3.295V when 7 beeps are sounding

              q285 voltages on pin 3-4-5 ?

              edit:
              voltage on q27 pin 4 ?

i think pin 4 of both q27 and q26 should be 18 volts...

Re: Alienware M14x R2 with 7 beeps error

as i said pin 4 of q26 is low. ih should be 17-18 volt like on q27.

2 reason: or r270 is bad or q26 is bad.

                  u can try:

                  1) replace r270 with 102k resistor

                  2) remove q26 and see if pin 4 get 17 volt and pin 1-2-3 get 5 volt.

Will a 100.8k ohm resistor be within tolerance?

                      100,8k is ok for me.

With R270 resistor in the circuit, it is 39.3k ohms, when I test the original resistor out of circuit it is 101.6k ohms which is good.

Is this resistor ok? Should I put the replacment 100.2k ohm resistor in or put the original 101.6k ohm resistor back on??

What do you think of this rework station, it is in my budget and has temperature control and attachments.

Shows 39.3k ohms in circuit as before, voltage is the same with new resistor. Do I put the original back on?

I do not know about this brand.
however, this device does not seem stable and powerful.
If you always need a hot air rework station, buy some decent station like these ones:
                                Gordak-952 or BK-601D
or buy a used station. they should be cheap.

this is not good. get an atten 8586 or similar. it has controlled temperature, easy tips on market, all replacement parts and so on. its about 70-80 euros.

put back the old resistor and remove q26 and see if pin 4 get 17 volts after q26 is removed. if yes, replace q26.

Good news, I asked a local micro solder repairer guy (that runs his business from home) if I could use his rework station free of charge and he said yes I could :-) I went there today, I replaced R270 properly with it's original resistor and removed Q26 from the board, pad 4 of Q26 now gets 18V as it should and R270 gets around 99k ohms across, now I have to find a replacement for Q26 and hopefully that will fix the +5VS line :-)

it is a good progress in this board repair.

Where can I buy a new replacement IC marked AO4478 BA341R, I don't have this one on any of my donor boards, they are different markings.
