Looking for a new hot air station, any recommendations?

Anybody has experience with Weller WTHA-1, Best BST-863, Quick TR1300A, or Quick 861DW?
It is quite a price difference between them, but watching/reading reviews/forums, even the Best looks good.
I know that everybody favores the Quick 861DW, but I would be willing to get something slightly even better than that.

What do you have in mind to do that the Quick 861DW can't handle?

I've recently found out even a cheapo 858D can do most things when coupled up with a similarly cheap preheater

I have a 858 for years, lately I have to bag it to something, to start spinning the fan.
I need to get something else, so why not upgrade, right? Holidays are coming up, I have some money.
I'm thinking about something better then the 858.
I would have to get a preheater as well.
Most likely, the Quick would be enough for my needs, but it is not a big name, at least I have never heard of them, before I started researching hot air stations.
In the past, I was burned with no name devices and I said, that I will never go with cheap brands.
I can't find much about the Weller stasion, or the Quick TR1300A.

I think a lot of the popularity of the Quick 861DW came from these reviews by well know and respected bloggers

        Luis Rossman
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChujyTV-HME

        Dave Jones (Eevblog)
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_yHkrVYrBE

Recently there seem to be two types of Quick 861DW

        This one
        https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUICK-Sol...UAAOSwWkxdbNHt

And This one at about half the price
        https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quick-Sol...9cf9e4df7391d6

Also on Aliexpress, recently there seems to be a great difference in price for what appears to the the same item (the 'original' type)

Most seem to be around this price
        https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3299...chweb201603_55

        And others around this price
        https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...chweb201603_55

And to be honest I don't know why. Either some sellers are clearing old stock, or some sellers have recently bought a cheaper copy of the same machine.

Maybe some sellers are now selling a better earlier version cheap, because the can't compete with a new cheaper version? If you get what I mean.

As I want to buy one myself, I am very confused about what I should do. I had no problem with the old 235ish price, it's what I expected to pay. I'm a bit suspect of the 115ish priced ones

I was going to buy an 861DW from here. https://eleshop.eu/quick-861dw-hot-air-station.html
The main reason apart from it not being a random Chinese seller and having to pay import duty/tax is the fourth generic nozzle allowing for a wide variety of nozzles to be fitted and used.

Re: Looking for a new hot air station, any recommendations?

Yeah that looks respectable, just a couple of stings in the tail

If I order to my parents UK address I only pay €10 postage but have to pay €51.20 VAT so it's €305, according to the shopping cart

If I order to my Gran Canaria address I don't have to pay VAT or duty as we are exempt* here but the postage is €45 so it's €288.80.

So it's cheaper to ship one here but not as much cheaper as it should be. Some EU sellers offer free postage (eg Welectron with the Pace ADS 200) and I also don't have to pay VAT. I messaged them and they confirmed that. This makes for a good deal. But they don't stock the Quick 861DW

Interestingly, I have approached some ebay sellers who say that their listed prices include VAT, and I can request a VAT invoice, but they then refuse to deduct VAT when I ask to have the item shipped here. Hmmmm I smell something fishy there.

I had a closer look at those Quick 861DW on aliexpress. Though they look the same, there is some difference in the shape of the slots on the rear panel. The cheaper ones have three rows of slots of the same width. Also they don't have a ground jack socket.

So I think I found out how to tell the difference between the two types.

*technically speaking the canary Islands are exempt from VAT and duty on imported goods, but sometimes I have to pay 6.5% IGIC (local equivalent to VAT) but I am IGIC registered so can claim that back anyway

              @diif
These are the two types I am finding

              Original type
              https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3300...2a572e0eHcPnCf

              New (cheaper) type
              https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...9-370184d3aa68

It's very clear to see the difference on the back panel and the first seller makes an issue of that and say's his are original. I wonder what else is different as well as visible changes to the back panel?

Can someone who already has the Quick 861DW confirm what the back panel looks like?

The first of the two links is the best deal I can find with shipping to Gran Can, €221,87 so I think I may go for that one. I can get a few more nozzles and still save money

the reason they will give you a reciept with a vat number, but not deduct the vat is because normally a registered business will simply use the vat number to claim the vat back from the government.
they arent used to people who simply dont pay any - which sounds kind of corrupt to put it bluntly!

                  Not at all STJ

We pay import duty/tax here (6.5% IGIC) but our island government is simply not as greedy as yours is. If you self empolyed here you can claim the IGIC back. And of course pay IGIC on the services you supply to your customers. Same as being VAT registered.

If you are not self employed you pay the 6.5% IGIC instead of the 20% VAT, but you are still 13.5% better off and a lot of time you don't get charged IGIC by the customs anyway.

HMRC also says it is OK for british expats living outside the EU (or in the EU but outside the customs union which is the situation here) to get VAT back on goods they purchase in the UK and then take home with them

                  https://www.gov.uk/tax-on-shopping/taxfree-shopping

Nothing dodgy or corrupt about it.

                    @dicky96 ,

The 861DW with the mains cable coming out at the back and the smaller vents in the middle is the Original.
I did buy such 861 about 3 1/2 weeks ago from Eleshop (in my country).

Yes the price is around 300 Euro ... and until now I'm happy

                      Thanks pecrie
Yes I ordered one yesterday from aliexpress listing that specifically states I will get that version

                      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3300...78b12e0e77ExQK

Was €222 inc postage to Gran Can which is not the cheapest place to get shipping to! Maybe some sellers are selling these off cheaper because they can't compete with the new lower cost version? And I guess many buyers wouldn't even know ther eare two versions? I've no idea if that new version is as good as the old one but I wasn't going to take a chance.

I was considering to buy from Ali also. But with the import tax and transport costs I would have to pay the same amount of money.

And for the guarante it is also better to have the seller close at home ....

I didn't know that there was a cheaper version - but like you I will not take any chances (with a far away seller)

Tequipment has them for almost the same price. I think that I will be getting it from them.

I few days ago, it was $258.
I'm kind of thorn between this and the Best stasion. That one, is way cheaper($159+tax) on Bangood) and more powerful.

I think that the extra nozzles are for use with the conversion Aoyue nozzle .
Some months ago I did buy some of the QFN Aoyue nozzles for my CT - 852K hot air station.

So I can use these with the Quick 861

@tibimakai did they cancel your order for the Best 863? I put a order in Nov 6 they have just cancelled my order without reason. I did contact them about a week ago to find out the status, and at that time, they said that there was a large demand and they were having trouble filling the orders in time. I waited 1.5 months for them to cancel on me

I have canceled the order after a few days, because nothing was happening.
Than, I have noticed that the station had an extra choice, it could be shipped from the US as well. That option wasn't there, when I have ordered it the first time. To my surprise, it was way cheaper that way, only $137. I already have it, it arrived like a week ago. I haven't open it yet, because it is my Christmas present.

Ok thanks....Unfortunately for me in Canada, if I'm ordering/shipping from the US, I need to add on the taxes and possible duties, where as from China, it usually gets past without.

I'd be interested in your opinion on it after you get a chance to try it out.
