    Frame Rate Converter in UN50H6350AF

Where does the frame rate converter (FRC) reside in the Samsung UN50H6350AF? I would have assumed that it was on the main board somewhere, but I checked the service manual for this exact TV and it seems to indicate that it is on the T-CON board (see attached signal flow diagram).

I'm asking because I have one of these that randomly reboots about once a day up to maybe three times a day. I got into the service menu and found a setting under SVC > Info > ER Count > FRC3D Reboot On/Off. The default is ON. When I turn this setting to OFF, the TV stops rebooting, but then once a day or so the picture tears up horizontally instead. The only way to clear it is to turn the TV off and then back on. So that apparently is what FRC3D Reboot is for, is to reboot the TV when that happens. By the way, the FRC3D ER Count in that same menu shows quite a few errors.

The attached pictures show the exact boards that I have in my UN50H6350AF WH02.

If I buy a T-CON board, is there a good chance that that would fix it, or would the main board be the better choice?

It does look like FRC is part of the T-CON.

Thanks - appreciate it a whole lot. For some reason my Ebay search didn't turn that one up. That looks like the best deal I've seen yet, so I bought it. BTW, last night I got into the service menu again and went to SVC > Self Diagnosis > T-CON/FRC and ran the self test. The test pattern progression seems to terminate early and the result is always NG (no good).

Ok, hope it fixes it, pretty cool that a tv can diagnose itself, takes a lot of guesswork out.

you might try cleaning the LVDS cable / connectors between the tcon and main board to see if that changes anything.... although your diagnostic seems to point towards the tcon... but I am thinking maybe the main still sends some form of "known frame" to the tcon as part of the test.

Thanks, I'll do that. It may be a few days before I can get inside the TV though.

OK, here's the latest. A little over a week ago I opened the TV and tried some remedies. I tried to clean the LVDS cable and re-seat the connectors. After that I went to the SVC > Self Diagnosis > T-CON/FRC menu and ran the self test to get a quick indication of the results. The result still read out NG.

I then replaced the T-CON board with a new one. After that I went to the SVC > Self Diagnosis > T-CON/FRC menu and ran the self test to get a quick indication of the results. The result still read out NG.

So it wasn't looking good. I thought maybe I replaced the wrong board. I left the new T-CON board in the TV and we watched it all last week. Glad to report that the TV has not rebooted once throughout that entire time. This is further attested to by the fact that the FRC3D ER Count hasn't counted any more errors than what it showed before I replaced the board. I don't know why the self-test still gives a bad result, but the main thing I needed was to get rid of the rebooting. It looks like that is gone now.
