    look at the module - maybe it's just a shorted cap in it.

      No, i check it. The short is in the Marvell 88W8781 IC
      ...the quieter you become the more you are able to hear...

        unfortunately yes. you could replace the Marvel chip? Or maybe find a replacement wifi module on ebay?

          rtstorm, did you manage to fix that PS3 in the end?

          I have the same problem with PS3 slim, there is so much draw from the 5V standby rail that PSU shuts down. Powering the main board from the bench psu it does the same thing as yours did: initially it draws almost 2A, and then in a few seconds it goes down to 0.5-0.6A.

            Hey, I did not. The problem was on a Wi-Fi chip. I order a 'new' one from AliExpress but still no help. I am not sure that the one that I order was working also, so I give up on this. Problem is that I did not find actually the new one, they are all scraped from the broken console. If you can find one, go ahead and replace it (hint: use preheater to desolder it)
