Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

      Good afternoon ,
My name is Raymond and I'm new to this or any forum.
I'm 52 and was married 27 years but am widowed now. I have 4 grownup kids and 8 grandkids.
I bought a Samsung 60" tv, model number is UN60J6200AFXZA when all the sudden it wouldn't turn on, I have a solid red standby light on and
When I use the remote to turn it on it blinks several
Times but no picture, sound etc.
I was told that one of the boards went out so I purchased every board for the tv.
I installed them all including the cables, it is still doing the same thing.
I am a ASE Master mechanic but have never really worked on this type of stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello all! I was referred to this site via shopjimmy.com, and I am looking for some guidance in fixing my silly set. I hope I can get the help I need, and I'll be paying it forward anyway I can on the forums for the years to come. I can tell this is a valuable, tight-knit community, and I look forward to returning here long after my problem is solved.

[QUOTE=petabyte;27]As this is a brand new forum, I thought I'd open up a thread to encourage new members to introduce themselves a bit.. now hey.. let's not get too personal.. ok ?

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread "clean" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said "w00t.. they have a forum"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up.. [/Hello everyone i am an engineer. I am retired and have my own repair business . We specialize in Video and audio mostly. I am learning a lot just by reading some of the posts. i hope to share some of my experiences based from my country ,Haiti which is a small country with less ,much less opportunities then most other regions of the world. I am hoping for some patience and understanding from the other members in regard to the stupid questions i might post sometimes. I will try to limit participation at the beginning with the hope to catch on quickly . thank you all for this great site.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Halo from me. My name is Stefan. I am 35 this December. I am not a specialist in electronics but I love it anyway. I learn about it every day. My love at first sight with it was when I was some 6-7 years old. I remember I was filling small bottles with water and then sprinkling the light switches with it. Then was turning the lights on and off. I enjoyed those little shocks I get from the current. My parents were chasing me all the time around while I was doing this. Retarded I know but I liked it.
            Nice to be here.

Hello. New member. Retired gadget junkie who likes to try to fix electronics even though no idea what I'm doing. My introduction was building Dynaco amps, tuners, preamps etc. to pursue hifi while a student with very limited funds.

Lots of great information here! Looking to salvage my Samsung Plasma...PN42C450B1D Nothing fancy, but I prefer the overall look of a Plasma over the LCD/LEDs on the market (unless you go really high end).

                        Hi, I'm Mike,
I am interested but not formerly educated in electronics past computer networking an a little programming. I do work on phones and computers but not at the board component level past the normal build, cpu, ram, etc. I also have a telecommunications certification and spliced fiber in the 90's, but colorblindness took me out of that, I just couldn't tell with AT&T cable but was fine with C-COR. I know a few things, maybe I can contribute too. I have also installed IP and BNC camera systems, and was an installer, lead tech, and QC for cable TV contractors in a TimeWarner system, (it's all pretty much the same).

                                  Hi

I am not as experienced as the majority of you guys, but I do have basic IT knowledge. I have never had any formal training, but I am a keen learner.

I have run (with some pro help) our families company IT for the last 10 years. In 2012 we installed a Dell SBS 2011 edition, which I am familiar with.

What I really lack, is understanding the language, jargon, if you spell it out to me in English, I will normally be able to decipher what you are talking about. As I said, no formal training, no courses, all self taught, or memorised from instructional videos and forums.

As I said before, I am keen and confident and willing to try most things computer wise!
