Sony KDL-37U4000 bad colour - TCON fault

    Hi guys,

as I mentioned in the thread for the KDL-46X3500 (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...357#post901357) the guy was throwing two TV's out, and this KDL-37U4000 was the other one.

The 46" worked stright away - amazing.

The 37" presented with colour issue as he had suggested.

Polarised, I think is the correct term.

So, after research I ordered replacement IC AS15-U and proceed to replace the chip in the TCON board.

I measured the gamma outputs on the original chip (which should be ascending or descending if good) and they were all over the place, so I was pretty confident it was a faulty IC, AS15-U.

Having swapped the IC (I didn't add extra solder to legs on the new one) and remeasured the Gamma outputs they were smooth ascending., I turned on the 37" to a perfect picture!!! Hooray.

But then where I had tightened up the screws (I normally work on motor bikes.) and flexed the TCON board, the chip litterally popped off. (Obviously wasn't on there great.)

In my efforts to reattach the chip I damaged the TCON board - solder pad...

So, I gave it go - success with ultimate failure.

Not the end of the world.

At least I knew that a new TCON board would definitely fix the TV... Thats a win.

I ordered a replacement, but here is the crux...

The original board no is T370XW02 37T03-C00. Sticker says FS-5537T03C11.

I checked with some guys in china, who sell new, and they assured me that the FS.....C11 sticker was not important, and that their new board would be compatible.

So, I bought a second hand board in the UK, because it's quicker. The board no is same T370XW02 37T03-C00, but sticker says TS-5537T03C02.

Now, I know this replacement board he sent me was faulty. Because when I got it, I installed it and measured the gamma voltages....and as already mentioned they have to be ascending or descending.

These were f*cked. All over the place. Same as my original TCON before I replaced the AS15-U IC.

    So...

I still had a brand new AS15-U IC. If I swapped this faulty one on purchased card, maybe that would do the job.

I did it much better this time, with successful replacement.

I measured the gamma readings with the replaced IC in situ, and they were all gradually ascending...good job.

However, the picture is still faulty to some degree...

Bear in mind, when I did the replacement originally on the original board, the picture was good. - Before the chip made a break for it!

    So.

Either, the Chinese are wrong, and the FS / Cxx designation/revision number is important. Or the geezer who supplied this TCON replacement, has sold me a faulty card (which I know is the case because of the intial gamma readings) and there is more wrong with it than just the AS15-U IC.

Would be handy if someone could qualify regarding FS / Cxx being mandatory important.

I can buy a new board from China, for about $20.

I can buy a used replacement board from the USA, shipping is significant.

I can fault find on the existing replaced TCON.

But I would like to have a stop loss. To know with some certainty, that I am buying the correct board, if even I have to wait a while for it.

    Any thoughts?

    All the best.

T370XW02 37T03-C00 is the blank PCB P/N which can be stuffed to make many PCBA for various LCD panels as needed.
The PCBA P/N printed on the bar code sticker is the one you want to match.
'If you look at shojimmy web site, you will see that they are not listed as substitute with each other.
SONY may hace change the panel during the production run so same TV may not have the same exact LCD panel.
I always match the PCBA number and I also use shopjimmy web site for verifiaction to see if there are any sub available or not.

Cool. That's the qualification I was looking for.

I know this replacement board I received was bad because I measured the Gamma outputs and they were shite.

After I changed the chip, the measurements were good, but still iffy picture...

Notice, Jimmy is out of stock....

      Need a supplier.....

These guys reckon their board will work....

Problem is, in the UK people sell these "used" from cracked screen tv, but often it's bullshite.

The two boards may not have the same FW.
What is the P/N of the U302 on that T-CON board?

I always repair my boards rather than replace because you then know its 100% compatible.

For those that cant repair the chips themselves there are TCON repair services offered on ebay
