    A1466 820-0165-A No power

Hi. Have an A1466 820-0165-A with a black screen. Attached magsafe charger, the light goes green. No fan spin.

See 8v6 rail; 3v3 rail; no 5v0 (7A) rail. Many other rails also missing.

Proceeded to remove wifi; SSD cards - no difference.

Then proceeded to remove the flat cable between the audio board (820-3455-A) and the main logic board. Bingo! Fan spin.

Proceeded to add back the SSD & wifi card - still ok on fan spin.

Attached the lvds cable - have video and the macbook booted to the desktop.

If we attach the audio board with the flex connector - the system acts dead again.

The trackpad had some hints of liquid damage - cleaned with alcohol and appears to work ok. The power button is still not working correctly from what we can tell. Need to check online videos but is this keyboard with rivets? Will study the schematics on how the on/off power button functions.

Are the audio boards serviceable? See some potted parts on this tiny board (has the magsafe + USB + audio jack + audio codec?).

They are pretty pricey on the websites.

    Welcome any suggestions.

The Keyboard should be screw based if I am not mistaken. Rivets last time I checked are in the Retina models from 2012 and above. The IO board on these are fairly cheap on eBay have you considered looking for them there?

On off: smc_onoff 3.4v when you press power button you short it to ground an macbook turns on. You keep shorting, macbook turns off.

Inspect DCIN board and ribbon to liquid damge. Probably just bad dcin board or ribbon. Buy them and change them.

Thank you both for your replies.

With incredible luck, had a spare but brand new trackpad for this model from China. The owner was complaining about the track pad before. The trackpad connector was heavily corroded and the hot air with fresh flux did not help at all. Rather, warped the black plastic blade connector a bit.

The replacement trackpad works perfectly and now the keyboard on/off is also working properly.

The fan is on full speed - is that normal?

The audio board still has the complex ribbon cable not connected. The board does not appear to have any liquid damage. Ebay is around $50-$80 USD for this small board; Aliexpress is about $30 USD + shipping. Amazon is $100 (cad). Pricey boards.

The complex ribbon cable and pins look brand new and still shiny and gold plated.

The computer is booting fine but we have no audio chime out of the system. Guessing the audio codec on this board is the sound generator?

Fan will spin if dcin board is not connected properly, also you will not have chime or any other sound ond board. So all symptoms shows bad dcin board.

Till new parts arrives you can start diagnostics by pressing D while macbook boots up. Then you can see if there are other errors.
