    Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 Data Recovery

    Hi all,

    So a friend's USB drive stopped being recognized by windows all of a sudden, I said I'd have a look at it, thinking it would be a case of corrupted data and windows refusing to mount the drive due to that.
    Plugged it into my Linux machine and there's still no response, looks like it's hardware related.

    Opened it up to check over the PCB and connections and low and behold, I can't see a PCB. Now it must obviously be under the metal shroud, but I've never dealt with a USB drive like this before.

    If anyone on here has experience with this type of drive and could provide some tips/advice on how to go about at least getting to the PCB that'd be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Update. I've gotten the plastic off and the connector slid out, expected to see some sort of controller, but this is all I was met with.

            It's a monolith flash drive, a real pain to recovery!
            BTW in the second picture on the bottom left there's
            a SMD component marked J that looks like a fuse.

              Uh oh I'm going to have to check again! Guessing a component on the other side has burnt out in that case?

                Possibly a blown fuse? That'd be nice, guess I'll test that first.

                  That really would be nice. ahaha. If it is a blown fuse, I would probably first check if you have a short on either side of the fuse to ground.. If so, then something in the chip might be shorted out. :/

                  And as noppa mentioned, monolithic chips can be a pretty horrible thing to recover. lol Also hard to recover without some specialized tools often. ^.^;

                  Here's hoping it's just a blown fuse!

                    Sadly it's not the fuse.
