The board in the title is not POSTing. The caps are all cheapo Teapo SM series, except for a single 470uF 16V Wendell. The VRM in has 3x 2200uF 16v, The VRM out has 6x 3300uF 6.3v, and the other caps are 16x 1000uF 6.3v. I realise that teapo fail without showing it, but I'm still not sure whether they would be the problem as the board has hardly been used.

For replacments, I have some Panny FM for the VRM in and the 470uF Wendell, FJ for the VRM out and some Sanyo WG for the 1000uF.

who took the heatsink off the other chip?
you can still see the glue on it.

You mean the southbridge? There never was a heatsink. it was just a sticker. I took the sticker off as it was peeling

i'd flip it over & meter the core voltage across one of the vrm caps incase it's missing.

i know this board likes to point at caps, but i'v had a few mobo's with bad vrm fets.

I removed one of the 3300uF caps with the intention of measuring the voltage across the VRM. To my surprise, it posted when I fired it up, but it had artefacts, so I changed the RAM and when I fired it up again, the CPU fan kicked and it powered off. Swapped back to the other module, same thing. Removed the RAM, it now stayed on, but, obviously, didn't POST. Put the RAM back in, and it worked perfectly.

The behaviour of this motherboard seems to be a bit random, sometimes working, sometimes getting artefacts, sometimes not POSTing and other times only staying on for a split second.

sounds like the caps are all fucked, the ram increases the pwer-draw and the load on the caps.

Octek was around this late? The last I heard of them was the DynamiCache 486!

I didn't think that they were around this time either until I saw this motherboard. After a quick look at their website, it appears that they were around even later

It might not be used much but that doesn't mean much.

I've got a Socket A Albatron board which doesn't work. I left it in a box and pulled it out recently for some reason. Half the capacitors are bulging (they weren't before)

So they got worse just sitting there!

I've re-capped it now and it seems to be more reliable. I've fired it up a few times and it has worked every time so far. I am currently stress-testing it with Prime95.

It's been running for 24 hours now and still going strong. I'm going to let it run some more.

Now been 54 hours and no probs. will switch to memtesting now.

Ran for 10 hours memtesting with a total of 25 passes. Looks like it's fixed
