    Sharp LC-32D44E-BK possible lamp error???

Hi, I have a Sharp LC-32D44E-BK that when switched on, the standy light turns green for 5 seconds, then turns red.

Nothing else happens, no backlights etc.

A quick search seems to suggest this is a safety feature relating to a lamp error, and there is some way to reset it and test it??

I have never looked at an LCD with a CCFL before, so dont know where to start, so any advice greatly appreciated.

Probably a bad CCFL or a bad CCFL connection. If still met with a failure after correctly reconnecting CCFLs that are not faulty, then it's time to check the inverter board!

Also a click to a solid red light, can mean a short. IIRC, I had tiny water droplets cause my 1995 Fisher (Sanyo) TAD 5024 stereo to have that issue.

How would I go about checking/reconnecting CCFLs? Ive never had anything to do with these type of TVs at all.

It describes my problem in the image of the manual below, but dont see how I can reset anything without being able to see anyhing on the screen, dont know if im missing some sort of trick with these things lol

I would expect the backlights to come on for seconds at least before it goes into shutdown protection if it detects bad lamp/circuits, it will only take one bad lamp to cause the protection shutdown.

After a quick google search, I read something about holding VOL- and Input, and I did, and screen came on, but went off when I released it, people mention something about getting into some reset menu to delete something to reset the lamps so Im studying the manual atm

That is for the lamp error counter reset and you are able to get the backlights to come on for seconds.
So a this point, it can be bad lamp, bad lamp connection, bad inverter transfomer, etc. so more idepth troubleshooting required.
You can do easy test such as checking the resistance of the high Voltage winding of each inverter transformers, they should be within 3% from each other.

Yes, by holding VOL- and Input the TV came on as you say, backlights came on for few seconds, and went off, and TV is staying on with green light now.

That is not a fix, it bypass the protection circuit and stop it from shutting down, be real careful.

I understand what you mean but I removed the bypass once id managed to reset the lamp errors in the service menu, and so far its still working, so ill see how it goes.

Good, most people will leave the bypass in place. The circuit must have detected error enough to fill up the counter, so keep an eye on it.
