    Samsung LN46A500T1F Color Distortion problem

    Hi guys,

First of, I hope Im following the rules properly posting new threat, if not, I apologize in advance, and accept suggestions

I have a 46" Samsung LCD TV, model LN46A500T1FXZA, and about a week ago, suddenly the colors are totally wrong, like a negative film (but in color). I've seen some videos about the service menu config and I got into it, but after changing a few of the options there I don't see it improving at all. Judging from comments on other threats, I think it might be the T-Con board, can anybody give me an advise about it? I hope I posted the pictures properly, but if I didn't, here is a youtube video with a slide show of them.

Looks like a gamma voltages problem. Can you post a picture of the tcon board?

Bad Gamma voltages on the T-CON board. Post good clear pictures of the T-CON board.

Yes, see the area marked "GAMMA" between the two white ribbon cables?
With your multimeter on the 20V DC range, check the voltage on each numbered pad and report back.

          To do this:
          - Multimeter set to 20V DC range
          - Red probe on the pad in question
          - Black probe on metal frame such as wall mount brackets (inside TV.)
          - TV plugged in and showing image with fault

As a side note (I don't know if it's important or not), I noticed a few months back, that images would burn too easy on the display. For example, (I have comcast as a cable provider), If I put the On-demand Menu, and look for a TV show, lets say 5 min or so scrolling to my choices, that was enough time for the TV to get the menu boxes burned into the display.

            Thanks,

That effect can sometimes be found with gamma problem, but it is also sometimes due to the chi-mei LCD panel (which is a cheap panel for Samsung to use, vs their own panels they used in the 6-series Samsungs.)

Re: Samsung LN46A500T1F Color Distortion problem

OK Guys, Here are my results. I want to make sure I got the voltages in the correct numbers, I assumed the numbers on top indicate the order numbers on the pins. See picture bellow and tell me if I got it right.

Now, there isn't a number 18 on the board, but there is a pin for it, so I got that one too just in case.

                  Volt 1 14.6
                  Volt 2 13.02
                  Volt 3 12.25
                  Volt 4 11.58
                  Volt 5 11.16
                  Volt 6 11.15
                  Volt 7 12.99
                  Volt 8 11.39
                  Volt 9 9.13
                  Volt 10 6.49
                  Volt 11 6.28
                  Volt 12 5.52
                  Volt 13 4.94
                  Volt 14 4.6
                  Volt 15 4.2
                  Volt 16 3.4
                  Volt 17 3.17
                  Volt 18?? 9.16

I see in another thread Tom's spreadsheet, and seems like it failed the test?

That looks right, the IC is bad. Do not fret! Just need to replace gamma IC on T-con (a fairly intermediate to advanced soldering project) or entire T-con board.

I'm pretty good at getting myself in trouble Which one is the IC on the T-Con? And also, If I wanted to go the whole T-con way, I only see one sticker with a to of numbers, is that the part number?

The numbers as printed on the barcode sticker is the PCBA numbers that you need to match, go to shopjimmy.com. You can contact them to verify.

Ah ok, mine says AS19-H1G0813B7923N45. WOW!! that looks much more complicated to replace than the one I circled lol. I might not be qualified for it.

shopjimmy.com does not have my T-Con, the only offer the repair service for $69. I might take that option. BTW... is there any place you guys know where I can get the IC? I don't even see results for it on google

                                  Budm,

Thank you very much for taking the time to find it for me. I'm assuming the important part of the model is up to AS19-H1G, I was trying to find one that matched the whole string of numbers. I'm guessing it doesn't matter if they don't?

Anyways... I ordered it, but it's going to take some time to get it, they say from 15 to 30 days so I'll be patient.

                                  Again, thank you very much.

The harder part will be removing the old parts without damaging the traces.

I was kind of worried about that too. Well... While the IC gets here, I got plenty of time to practice, so Im going to find ICs on some unused boards I have laying around.

Can you explain briefly how is it that the number printed on the IC doesn't have to match exactly? I'm just curios about that.

                                      Thanks in advance,
