    Need help identifying capacitor

    Hi All,

My Polk Audio DSW Pro 600 sub decided to stop powering on and I finally got around to tearing it apart. I ended up finding 3 blown capacitors on the amp circuit board (attached pic). The larger capacitor was easily identifiable and I've found a suitable replacement here:

    http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...1960-ND/589701

However, the other two identical capacitors have no farad, voltage, or temperature rating whatsoever. Only thing on the label is 8019P 100L. I attempted some Googling but I could not find anything concrete. I'm making the assumption that I'll need 105C temperature rating for them as that is the rating on the larger capacitor. Any chance someone knows how to go about finding particulars on these? Caliper measurements are 13mm diameter, 21mm high, and roughly 6mm spread on the leads.

    Thanks in advance!

Is there a stripe on the side? What are the designators for those two unidentify caps Cxx? Can we see the picture of the board so we can figure out the function of those caps?

They must be the inductors for the Class D output filters.

            Thanks for the replies, Guys!

There is, in fact, a stripe on the side (photo 1). The other two photos are the back and front of the board. The back side is marked with C101, L101, L102 - sorry, you're dealing with a rookie here!

The two holes between L101/102 had +/- wires soldered directly to the board. Could not get them to desolder even at 475C. I ended up adding leaded solder to the joint and slowly but surely they finally came loose. Needless to say, the board needs some serious cleaning. Am I good using 100% isopropyl?

Thanks again for all the help!

              C is short for Capacitor.

L is short for inductor ... so L101 and L102 are inductors.

              Isopropyl alcohol should be fine.

anything designated "L" is a coil.

                  Re: Need help identifying capacitor

Since you already found digikey, if you haven't ordered a new cap yet (for the actual cap listed above) you can put an audio grade cap in the unit, and possibly get a better sound. Elna Silmic II, Nichion, etc. are better audio caps and depending where that cap is in the audio signal, replacing all the caps (doubt there's many there) can produce a better sound (subjective as people have different stances on this). When we are talking a .20 to a $1 difference in price for a cap, I say it's WELL worth the experimentation, especially in class D style amps that typically sacrifice sound quality over raw wattage.

                    VirtualEB,

Where you able to get your sub working? I have the same sub facing the same issue. I called Polk, and after them trying to sell me a new amp they offered the schematics for the sub. If you need them I will post, but I wanted to see if you got yours working?

                      skj001,

Do you still have those schematics? I am having the same issue with my DSW 400 PRO. Polk wouldn't help me. I am in the same boat as Virtual EB. I am ordering a capacitor and 2 inductors right now.

                        Re: Need help identifying capacitor

Have the inductors gone open-circuit, or have they burned up? If not, i don't think i see much reason in replacing them (as well). Just my two cents

                          Re: Need help identifying capacitor

The way the inductors were placed on the circuit board, they were right beneath the capacitor. The capacitor blew and everything leaked all over the inductors and corroded the bottoms of them. Figured I would replace them all while I had it opened up.

I know this is older thread but I have DSW Pro 600 with some crispy critters on one of the boards. Would be interested in getting copy of schematics.

I just pullout the two inducer and when looked on google for a cross ref. it got me on that forum. I don't know how to read them the Uf reads 0.08 and the other on read 0.12 . Good ? Bad ? don't know. The 2200 - 63v read 1960Uf giving 20% I think is still good. If I can fix that thing I will post a Video on Utube cause there lots of people just like us stuck with an expensive box. My boar was replaced bbefor the 5 years warranty once and same problem 5 more years later. I there someone that can suggest a crass ref for those guys?

They are very likely 10µH coils, I also see Kwang Sung 8019P-23-100L listed as 10µH ferrite inductor
I also see the identical inductor (as pictured) listed on web sites as 100mH but I believe they are wrong.

So I test both inductor 8019P 100L. . Reading 0.00 all three different holms meter including a Fluke. I think they bad? I can't find a place on line where to purchase them.
                                        Unless big quantities.
                                        Can someone help
