    Capacitor ID numbers

    Good evening Ladies & Gentlemen.
I am trying to repair an early generation of a “Vax” vacuum cleaner.
I have stripped it down to find a blown capacitor across the main on/off switch.
Some of the markings are unreadable however it is marked with:
    40/085/56
A quick search has told me this is a discontinued unit, however I have found an old stock/unused one on ebay, however it has a “B” on the end of the ID number. I.e 40/085/56B.
    It is manufactured by “RIFA”

My question is, what does this “B” mean and will it make any difference?
    Many thanks in advance
    Adam

    do NOT buy RIFA caps.
upload a photo of the original part.

What is the capacitor value? It would be marked on the top. The cap is just for spike/arc protection for the switch.
just get one from a electronic parts distributor like digikey, Rifa is the OLD manufaturer, it is now Kemet

That number is the "Climatic Category (IEC 60068)"

      PME271 series likely around 0.1µf 275 vac
It could be a PMR209 series (cap in series with a resistor)
Its mainly there for RF suppression to prevent AM radio interference

        it's not a cap, it's a supressor.
it has a series resistor in it.
