    GX270 - Removing the shield

I am recapping a GX270. How do you remove the shield to get to C118-C124 ? Those plastic push-ins are really causing trouble.

    Thanks,
    Steve

use a small awl from the underside of the board and push them out. Don't sit there and try prying them up from the top with a flat screwdriver, you'll destroy them before you ever get them out.

          Beed there, done that.

Actually I got 3 of them out without much damage (just a few scratches). My fingers and nails did hurt afterwards, though. I lost my nerves on the last one, so I tore that sucker into pieces.

After recapping and putting everything back together, I found that I have screws that were the same size as those push-pins. Since I did destroy one of the push-pins, I used the screw instead. Wish I found the screws earlier. I didn't feel like taking out those other push-pins out again, so I left them there. The screw fits and works quite nicely, though.

I think I'll post some pictures of my "fix" later this week. Had to some mods to make a standard P4 heatsink fit since I didn't have the original GX-270 one. Made a custom clip and fan holder for the heatsink, too. All using junk hardware I had laying around.

I've broken the pins on those before. latter designs use screws

fortunietly, I had other ones around to replace them
