    Sony MDP-33 Laserdisc Player

    Opened it up to see why the laser assembly was not parking right (there's a switch going iffy somewhere and it just makes an awful racket). Player otherwise worked fine.

    Wasn't expecting this at all.

    Wait, so is the stain on the case all from the electrolyte of the cap? Or did someone spill something, causing over-voltage of the PSU, thus making the cap bulge and leak?

      It's all leakage from that one cap. All the damage circles around that cap on both sides of the board, and on the bottom plate as it dripped down.
      I've never seen that before.

        (Just saw this thread for the first time)

        It's possible they are faulty from the manufacturer. Like the nichicon PF and PL series. I've seen them leak first-hand. Must be a faulty seal design or something to that effect. They smell like vinegar.
