Their probably IS a simple registry hack to disable these updates. The question is...why would Microsoft be denying users security updates just because they don't update everything else? I thought the mandatory updates were all about security. Or maybe its all about keeping Microsoft's spyware one step ahead of your anti-spyware.

Re: more win10 stuff
"have" to?
why exactly?
if a company tells an admin/tech they "have" to, the tech should make it very clear that they as the "expert" are recomending against it and will not be responsible for any failures, losses or downtime caused by the upgrade.
when i have worked for others, i have made it very clear that i am the expert and if they go against my advice then i'm not taking resonsibility for it.

The big problem for me will come when Windows 7 is unsupported and full of unpatched holes, because it's the last version of Windows that makes any sense to me. Windows 8 is a few good steps over the edge into stupidity and Windows 10 is even worse. I could probably grudgingly accept Windows 8 with a boatload of 3rd party modifications to make it work more like XP, but after that? Ugh.
I'll likely need an up-to-date Windows in the future for everything that doesn't work in Wine, and which can have an Internet connection without being more vulnerable than usual.

DirectX-11 is going to be in Wine soon.
DirectX 11 might be nice to have in Wine, but there are so many older games that still don't work right. Aquanox for example. Everything works except the mouse cursor does not stay centered on the screen, so eventually you end up at the edge of the screen and the game stops responding to mouse input. Useless for something that is in somewhat of an FPS style.

Re: more win10 stuff
i think itunes can be replaced by Clementine.

about that mouse thing,
open a terminal and type "winecfg" and set the option to trap the mouse in the window.Last edited by stj; 07-27-2015, 02:11 AM.

Re: more win10 stuff
I do use Clementine already, in both Linux and Windows, and love it, but unfortunately it does not support the later models like mine fully (reading works, but not writing).
I think it is a limitation of the GNU(?) iPod\iPhone access library rather than any specific program, as the same behaviour is present on all iPod-capable programs in Linux.
I will look into that mouse option though, thanks.
Seems I have terribly derailed this thread!..."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"
