150uF/450V replacement cap that is 18.5mmx40mm

    Hi,

I am working on a monitor which needs a replacement "big" filter cap. The cap is 150uF/450V and the current one is ~ 18.2mmx40mm.

The problem is when i go to digikey or mouser or newark.......the smallest they have is 25mmx30mm. The diameter is too big .........

I must be doing something wrong when i go to these sites because for all of them the smallest they have is ~25mmx30mm.

    Can someone help?

You're doing nothing wrong. It's likely a special order cap for the manufacturer. Most in that value and close by are 22-25mm diameter.

You could go to a 120uF/450v cap. It's at the low end of 20% tolerance of the original and would probably work just fine:

    Try mouser p/n: 647-UPZ2W121MHD - Nichicon UPZ2W121MHD - 18x40mm - $3.48

Thanks. Do you really think a 120uF would work?

      On a similar question:
If i had a 100uF cap (big filter cap) could i replace this with a 120uF cap (assuming both had same voltage specs)?

Thanks. I will start a new thread for this 100uf being replaced by a 120uf cap.

But back to this one..........so as a general rule of thumb.......one can go +/- 20% and you should be ok?

As long as you stay within the +/-20% tolerance, you should be okay. Yes, you can put a 120uF in place of a 100uF.

You can not, however, go down in voltage. But you can go up within reason. You can use a 475v or 500v cap for a 450v, but not the other way around.
