ok i have been working on tvs for about 2years and is now full time shop and i do good, i still am learning some things and get some hard tvs here and there that its harder for me to beat, like the older ones with mains and digital mains and such. but im pretty good at diagnosing a tv and using a multimeter to swap boards out and do small repairs on power supplies and surface mount components that i can tell are bad, but i have never see or even used a Oscilloscope can anyone tell me what this will do and how it will help me?

I have used my Rigol DS1074Z hundreds of times.
- can trace audio faults
- check power supply stability
- check if voltage regulator oscillating
- check LVDS signal to rule out main board or tcon
- check buck/boost converter is working on LCD Tcon
- hundreds of tests on plasmas (you only need to see how often I ask if someone has one...)
- input current measurement using ac clamp transformer can tell you if PFC is working

When I can't get further with the DMM, I use my 100 Mhz scope to visualize thing and help me troubleshooting the fault. I mostly use it on audio circuits, power supplies, TV's, Ham Radio and broadcast equipment. For me I sure have to have one.Comment

Not to mention diagnosing intermittent faults. I can't tell you how many times I gave up on a board which had some random issue which would make it cut off, but then it would be fine again when turned back on. A deep memory scope would allow you to see what happened just before it cut off, determine which circuit is causing the fault, and locate the particular component which is causing the fault.------------signature starts here------------
