    Re: Music server motherboard caps

    Thanks! That's what I figured, especially since this thing draws so little (1,100mA @3.3V; 1,250mA @ 5V, and 550mA @ 12V). Start-up is a whole 51 Watts for about a second!

Can anyone identify fuses FB2 and FB4 and what I can replace them with (besides a solder bridge lol)? These things are ridiculously small, no markings, and FB2 is open.

        those are inductors.

How do I determine the value of the bad one?

                throw some dice?
you cant - if you can meter inductance then read the good ones.
or just find one the same size on some junk - it's probably not critical get be exact.

Yup, I already harvested a slightly larger one from a cable TV box MB. It's working great. The old one burned out while I was troubleshooting the video output, so no worries with this one burning up. I did learn my soldering iron tip isn't isolated though! Lol

a good tip, your soldering iron tip is connected to ground, cut the wire in the handle or base and put a 1meg resistor inline.

that will disipate static but not pass enough current for a fireworks display if you solder something that is still powered.
