      Who would wanna live in France?

      Anyway, try Reichelt but they only have rather low quality Kemat A750 in Polymer. But Pana FM is also available in some sizes - according to

      Conrad is too expensive for most stuff...

            Re: Original Xbox Replacement Caps

            Resurrecting this thread as it contains some great information when it comes to capping 1.1->1.5 motherboards.

            I'm looking to repair a 1.6 motherboard. There's 5x 3300uf 6.3v Nichicon HM series capacitors on this revision. It looks like the advice on 1.1->1.5 was to use 5X 1000μF 6.3V instead 3X 3x 6.3v 3300uf Nichicon HM. Unfortunately the 1.6 motherboard is laid out differently (there are no empty holes for additional caps).

            Pic1 shows the 5x 3300uf 6.3v Nichicon HM caps with blown tops. The other 2 are closer shots of the cap details.

            Would something like these work? Look similar, but HM(M) vs HW(M) on the side. I'm fine with a soldering iron but the world of capping is new to me:

              you can get 2000uf polymers now,
              i used one in an intel motherboard to replace a 3300uf electrolytic.

                Nice! Any recommendations? When selecting polymer and 2000uf, 6.3v, I see the following listing on digikey (look to be all manufactured by Wurth, a few 5000hr rated, the rest 2000hr rated).
                https://www.digikey.ca/products/en/c...=1&pageSize=25

                I recall reading that the caps south of the CPU should be low ESR? I've seen the following recommended for non polymer as well for the caps that have bulged on my board:
                https://www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/...uTOL6mMDojhg==

                For the other caps in general, should any polymer suffice as long as it's an equivilant uf/v? Example:
                3x 6.3v 1500uf Rubycon ZL (10x20mm) replacement candidate?
                Nichicon PLG0J152MDO1: https://www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/...0GdHKI1cnZ8g==

                Thanks! Still trying to learn/grok this.

                  Re: Original Xbox Replacement Caps

                  polymers should have the highest esr possible.
                  i know that sounds strange, but they are so much better than electrolytics that a cheap polymer will be better than a really low esr one.

                  i dont know about the other caps, i'v not tried replacing them yet - but i will now china sells cheap polys/tants

                    Awesome and that's excellent news. I'll have to queue up an order with Mouser soon and give this a go. Thanks again stj.

                      I have the same problem as you (for a long time now, and never got around to fix it).
                      Did you fix yours?
                      What did you end up using?
                      Thanks!

                        Can I use these polymers next to CPU or the ESR is to low? (0.0007ohm)

                          you can, but these are cheaper - and tested.

                                you can, but tantalum caps is probably better - much of the board even has pads to fit them.

                                      From 3300uF to 1500uF is quite a drop for those CPU caps, no noticeable impact as a result?

                                        there is not much drop,

                                        your replacing 3 x 3300uf (9900uf) with 5 x 1500uf (7500uf)
                                        because most xboxes are designed for 5 caps and have the extra spaces.

                                        infact on the first boxes they used 5 x 1500uf or 1800uf electrolytics.

                                        also the esr and ripple capacity will be much better with the polymer caps

                                          Ah ok, makes sense. Just opened mine up and yup, 3x3300 with 2 empty spaces, so I've ordered 5 of the 1500's plus some extras to replace the PSU caps. Surprisingly not a single cap on the board shows any signs of issue at this stage, even the clock cap, which I'm removing anyway obviously, no point tempting fate.

                                          Will be good to know that the old girl still has some life left in her.
