    Sony GDM-FW900 Monitor

Looking at a Sony CRT monitor making these noises and does not turn on. Background noise sounds a little like an electric fan, then it makes what sounds like a metal on metal scraping noise, then it makes a click. The scraping noise and click repeat over and over. Any ideas where to start? I'm thinking this is some kind of shutdown circuit.

There are a lot of posts on this model, what area/board is the sound coming from? power supply, high voltage area?

Oh noes! Sounds like another one of these bit the dust from loosing vacuum. But let's verify that. Remove the plastic back shell/casing on the monitor and also the top metal cover so you can see the boards inside the monitor. Now plug in the monitor and have a look at the back of the CRT tube neck (the thin glass part that extends all the way to the back of the monitor) - do you see blue arcs in there? What about spark gap SG902 on the D-board (the board with the flyback transformer and big fat red wire coming out of it and going to the front of the CRT tube). If yes, CRT most likely has lost vacuum, hence the arcing.

If you can, post some pictures of the monitor.

Here's my post on this monitor of that issue:
