Yes, yes sir it is. That's the first time I've ever really dealt with replacing components on a circuit board but I have done a little soldering in the past modifying radio triggers with antennas and such. I was a little worried I might have screwed up the board and I was supper nervous that I had a cap in backwards. I set it in front of the bathroom door and with the cord going under it I plugged it in so that if it were to blow up I would be out of harm's way. haha. Then when i turned it on and nothing happened I shut down my computer and plugged it all up and she was as good as new. Saved me $400 which I can put towards a 3rd display instead of a replacement for the second.

          Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW

I just want to say thank you to PlainBill and all the others with great advice on this site. My Syncmaster 226bw started doing all of this not coming on and blinking and just driving me nuts. From this forum I found out that Samsung has a 3 year and 3 month warrenty on this monitor. They sent me a UPS sticker to my email and I will send it off today and hope to have it back in 14-21 days. That might be a long time but I have no clue how to replace these parts you are all talking about. Thank you so much for this site and great advice.

Just wanted to say a really big thank you to the really helpful folks on this thread. This was the first site I found that gave me the idea that this was a common and repairable problem... so between the info here and this YouTube video to help with some visual guidance, I tried it myself and it appears that, for under $25 including soldering equipment, my 226BW is back in business.

The information within confirmed for me that I was on the right track for repairing this monitor that decided to start to flicker a couple of days ago for a few minutes after coming out of low-power sleep mode.

Between yesterday and today I learned what a capacitor is, and have taken mine out... but couldn't find replacements locally so put them back in. Still works. I'll call that a trial run. Trying to find an online supplier now, and the part #s in the topic are helping towards that goal.

That is one reason we suggest members put their location (country) in their profile. We have people here from all over the world, many of them can offer suggestions for local (at least in the same country) suppliers.

Oh, I'd already called around my town and there aren't any suppliers in my immediate area. Before finding this forum, I was resigned to ordering online anyway. Still, it was great to see the same symptoms described in this thread. Gave me a bit of confidence that I was on the right track.

Like others in the topic, I really don't want to touch the 150uF/450v big one though. Afraid of getting shocked. I don't have the gear to discharge it. Just want to get another year or so out of this monitor, budget being tighter than I'm otherwise used to these days.

The 150uF, 450V cap will discharge rather quickly if the power supply is working.

Digikey represents the best value for capacitors IMHO. If you specify USPS First Class mail shipping the total for caps and shipping should run about $10.00

Thanks. I got distracted yesterday from this mission, so hadn't yet placed the order. However, based on this topic and checking availability from several sources named within the topic, I was intending to order from digikey last night before I wandered off to chase dust motes or something.

About that big cap: I have no reason to think the PS is not working correctly, so the recommendation would be to unplug and let it sit for how long ("rather quickly) before opening it up again? Should I hold the power button for a while after unplugging it? (Does that provide the necessary discharge?) Or is it a matter of just waiting it out, and if so, what's a fair guesstimate on time?

Oh, and I really should have mentioned this in my first post... I still can't get over the fact that there exists a site, badcaps.net, devoted to this topic. The Internet amazes me still.

The power supply is always on. The cap will discharge within minutes when the plug is pulled.

                                Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW

Digi-Key, Mouser, and Newark were all out of stock with lead times running out through mid-December for all or part of a 'matched set' of either Panasonic, Rubycon, Nichicon, or United Chemi-Con capacitors.

I ended up settling on the following order, with my final decision based upon many hours of experience spent last Saturday and Sunday with staring at vendor websites and trying to decipher capacitor specifications and agonizing about whether or not I was looking at the right items. Then I said something that rhymes with "bucket" and placed an order.

Digi-Key won my bulk order business of 6 capacitors. They're thrilled. I feel almost guilty, with the final order being $3.43 (including $0.19 tax). And more than double that for shipping. The package arrived and I was impressed both by the quality as well as the quantity of packing material. Each matched capacitor sealed within its own plastic bag, with each bag accurately labeled with a label that is bigger than the bag, with each labeled bag collated within an environmentally-friendly double-layer wrap of highly-porous Gaemi tissue wrap and an interesting mesh-like paper wrap I've not seen the likes of before, or since.

Without further drama, I give you:

The above components are intended for the Samsung 226BW "S" model described in the top post. There is also the A and C model, which were not assembled by Samsung, and likely accounts for the different board layout we saw within this topic.

I plan on installing this weekend. Thanks for the help and the opportunity to write a whole lot of words.

For ~ $12, I'm going to pretend I'm ahead of the game and that I saved myself ~ $238 dollars over the cost of a new monitor. Also, I couldn't wait... I am typing these words while looking at my non-factory refurbished non-flickering monitor. I love capacitors. They are amazing things.

This place has a lot of cool people who know alot of stuff. A real great resource here.

Congrats on fixing your monitor. Its a great feeling knowing you have saved yourself a bunch of money.

Mine hasn't flickered or had any problems yet (fingers crossed).

                                        Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW

Hello all! First I must say that this forum has been extremely helpful to me. I purchased a Samsung SyncMaster 225BW and a SyncMaster 226BW. The 225BW went bad and in my search I stumbled upon this forum. I was successful in repairing the SyncMaster 225BW with the information on this forum.

Now my SyncMaster 226BW has gone bad so I figured no big deal, it should be a similar repair as the 225BW. I dismantled the 226BW and found the bad capacitors and replaced them but the problem still remains. When I power on the monitor, it comes on for about a second and the goes off. When i press the 'auto' button, the screen comes on again and then goes off. The blue power light remains on. I can see the contents of the screen when under light. I am clueless as to what else could be the problem. I have taken photos of the power supply board and a video of what the screen does. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the video of what the video does. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVbHsfY1A3Q
