Re: Quark FALCON 1000 KW FM Transmitter - Alarm LED illuminated

Weird they went for a third party first instead of going straight for warranty service.

Do they have a spare transmitter? I would hope they would...

It's a pity RF transistors are so fragile...

Re: Why would a 25V cap blow across 19V?

It does because it discourages people from making guesses.

Let's say you have a 2 question, 5-multiple choice whose correct answer is 'B'. The first question you know the correct answer: B, so...

Re: Why would a 25V cap blow across 19V?

Ive found fakes tend to pop within hours of first power on. And yes reverse connects are a quick way to pop.

Anyway normally you can subtract equal points if wrong on multiple guess, but only if...

Re: Quark FALCON 1000 KW FM Transmitter - Alarm LED illuminated

Well that's the problem,
63Sn/37Pb (Eutectic) melts at 183C
60Sn/40Pb (close to Eutectic) melts at 183-188C
and leaded silver solder is 62Sn/36Pb/2Ag which melts at 179C - lower than the...

Re: Quark FALCON 1000 KW FM Transmitter - Alarm LED illuminated

Leaded silver solder was known to be the lowest temperature eutectic solder...
Unleaded solder is high melting point solder?

I suspect if you just use normal unleaded solder it's also got a...

Re: Can I substitute these capacitors on a D865PERL motherboard?

Any comments specifically about the D865PERL boards longevity past bad caps and socket failure? I think I have one of these and the cpu has been "overheating" or at least crashing stating that it...

Re: Is the thermistor NTC? PTC? just by looking?

It's very possible the PTC on the right was indeed used from a degausser, but not the NTC on the left... I believe the NTC was from a SMPS.

Either way, I hate unmarked devices. And yes they...

Re: Need pointers to knowledge sources for electromagnetic application

You need thicker/less resistive/paralleled wire so you can drive more current using lower voltage (hint: those bldc motors have thick windings for a reason!), or possibly a core with higher...

Re: Is the thermistor NTC? PTC? just by looking?

Okay. Was hoping someone could tell after going through enough of them.

Hate it when parts aren't marked with something that can lead back to a datasheet somewhere...

Re: A motor controller is a power supply, right?

A733 is TO92 but for your specific case it should work fine.

Sorry I can't help anymore, the data you give doesn't correlate to each other, too many either board track extract errors or...

Re: A motor controller is a power supply, right?

In a properly working circuit the node that's common to all three bjt transistors (collector of first, bases of other two) should drop to near 0V when the "+5V" input to the first transistor and...

agreed, feedback will be ruined and could go overvoltage and overcharge battery.

Re: A motor controller is a power supply, right?

So your "simulation" schematic is wrong because as drawn, the gate drive is supposed to be 0V and the mosfets off. You'll need to retrace again.

In any case that transistor seems to have failed...

Re: A motor controller is a power supply, right?

Is the voltages the way you measured on the board? Seems the circuit input is active low and when power needs to be supplied that input +5V needs to go to 0V.

As colored up and voltaged, with...

Re: Is the thermistor NTC? PTC? just by looking?

Err... the premise is that you can't touch. Can look, but not touch - so no heating or resistance measurements.

Actually why can't touch... assume the part is actually damaged beyond recognition...

Is the thermistor NTC? PTC? just by looking?

I suppose this can be deduced when in circuit, but if an out of circuit or questionable connectivity thermistor is handed to you, is it possible to tell whether or not the thermistor is PTC or NTC,...

Re: Can a DC motor start then just ... stop?

Does it work at 12V?
If not, stj had the most likely reason.

If it works at 12V (and 8V)...then we're probably dealing with the behavior of the buck PSU that's turning the motor.

Re: desk lamp stopped working... stars?

Actually changing the current is easy for me.
It's opening the stupid plastic welded-sealed PSU that's the hard part. :-(
