Re: Post your worthless and/or pointless repairs

What solder tip should I use to solder a wire to the middle pins of this 0805?
(Getting lucky to use the via or pads is not that lucky, there are none on the other side...)

Re: "amd" ddr2...

128 is a multiple of 64, not a factor.

To be clear, if there was a 128 bit chip, they'd either have to waste half of the bits, or have to select which half to write to / read from, adding much...

Re: "amd" ddr2...

128 bit dimms? Thought dimms were 64 bit and chips need factors of 64?

Re: Icom PS-15 power supply

What was the hack that was done?

Doesn't appear to have much protection circuit in this original circuit... so is it better?

I guess if the hack doesn't work, it doesn't work...

Re: DDR2 resistor packs... 0804?

Yeah with so little room for error i worry about precision of my calipers and especially the lead-to-lead dimension where solder might affect the measurement.

And then the conversion from imperial...

Re: DDR2 resistor packs... 0804?

Oh nice, BOM!

Thanks, yeah looks like 0804's so if it comes down to ordering from mouser or something, that's what I'll need to order. Else I may just swipe one from that dead PC3200 512M...

Comanche Blackhawk 10-meter radio

Well, I ended up with a broken Comanche Blackhawk.

It's a 10-meter amateur band radio that likely will go into 11-meter.

Looks like the digital electronics is toast. On a very unlikely search,...

Re: How to avoid shitty "McWires"?

Also poor selection of attachment points may exasperate the issue. The solder joint is the weakest spot and you want to make sure the least amount of stress is applied there.

length, thickness,...

Re: PCIe x16 socket replacement / desolder / rework

Even solder baths used to desolder is not easy especially if the pins have springs in them... or the pins are BENT. BENT pins piss me off so much, even if it's just a few degrees to help keep THT...

Re: Post your worthless and/or pointless repairs

remember 0805 4-pack resistor... so basically four 0201's next to each other!

Re: repairing traces...on a fine pitch board?

Yeah, definitely, though repairing this module would go with the above module and the number of 2G modules would be even once more...

Anyway, this machine with three 512M modules will not get...

Re: Post your worthless and/or pointless repairs

FSCK there's no way I can solder wires around one resistor of an 0805 4x resistor pack... or anyone think this is even possible without shorting out the adjacent pins? LOL...

Re: 878d H-E Error

oscilloscopes are not a magic test everything device, and dont think it will help much unless you happen to also have a ramp generator circuit, and even then you still need more equipment.

Though...

Re: repairing traces...on a fine pitch board?

Current dilemma : cannot get debug information from a dead 512M DDR2 module.

Need parts for a 2G DDR2 module that I rootcaused a failure.

Sacrifice pointless 512M module to fix a much more...

Re: PCIe x16 socket replacement / desolder / rework

Cutting was the preferred and even common method for even old DIPs even as small as DIP14 when the value of the IC was less than of the board. Solder suckers just do not remove enough of the solder...

Re: Getting lucky mixing DDR modules?

FSCK.

My DQ45CB will run 2x2+2x1 = 6GB but fails with 3x2+1x1 = does not POST or corrupts RAM When it does boot, it reports 2x2+2x1 in BIOS insisting "dual channel" but fails OS/memtest boot.

Re: PCIe x16 socket replacement / desolder / rework

Yeah cutting is the typical method, though still could induce inadvertent damage to the board since the plastic is still quite hard and could apply considerable and damaging force to the board while...

if it's a true ground pin why doesn't #%&*$ offer a 3 prong head for that charger?

But even if they do, where's that Y capacitor? Is it in the head?

Re: DDR2 resistor packs... 0804?

I'm not that used to working with SMT, hoping that device really is 0804?

Re: PCIe x16 socket replacement / desolder / rework

Even regular PCI and AGP sockets suck too... Probably the x1's have better luck...less pins, less to go wrong.

BTW does that board still boot after the removal, or was it trash to begin with?

DDR2 resistor packs... 0804?

Are those typical resistor packs on DDR2 modules 0804 (2010 metric?) 22Ω x 4?

Wondering what I need to buy if I can't find a sacrificial board with one... which will be annoying if I only need...

Re: repairing traces...on a fine pitch board?

It sticks!

That's a 30AWG underneath that blob, and a 10 piece under the board.

Fortunately the tracks were relatively far apart, and only one track.
