Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

OLED is not an LCD with LED backlight, BTW. So, how would you even be able to get an LCD panel in that?

OLED is a different tech, with lighting part of the package and its giveaway of OLED, is...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

IIRC, unless otherwise, Galaxy S5s use OLED.

iPhones are the ones that usually use LCD.

Re: ASUS P6T SE powers on/off but will not POST

Did you remove the processor and check the socket pins?

With your no-boot-but-can-power-off-and-power-on-normally-symptom, you possibly have a broken or bent pin.

Re: A Colossal HDD Failure

With 56K and earlier, this was difficult, compared to broadband with an Ethernet interface. The usual dial-up configuration, didn't use an Ethernet interface at the client end.

The usual, was to...

Re: A Colossal HDD Failure

That was Microsoft's fault, for making an artificial requirement that port 135 be open, IIRC. Also the same for port 445, IIRC. At least for XP, if not also later, possibly 2000 as well. Possibly all...

Re: A Colossal HDD Failure

I remember a virus back in 2003, where you will get infected quickly on 56K!
A firewall was required to prevent the exploit. It was "Blaster". (a.k.a. msblast.exe)

How did I know that I got...

Re: Too fast for Windows 95?

The black-screen-of-death Windows error they're talking about, is coincidentally the same error Windows 98 SE gave me, when I didn't have enough Vcore-* for my Athlon T-bird, LOL.

*-Note that...

Re: Topcat's Weird Pentium Pro Builds

Shet! I don't even have the slot 1 system anymore! I think I popped the Voodoo 3 AGP in there! The slot 1 motherboard, is the Asus P2B-F. But, I left it behind in a dumpy house! I had it before...

Re: Topcat's Weird Pentium Pro Builds

I'm with you there, albeit I still got very new stuff recently!

But, my socket 1366 system may be genuinely broken. I may be needing to give a verdict of a broken trace or contact. I may be...

Re: Topcat's Weird Pentium Pro Builds

Reminds me of back in the later-2010s, when I wanted to build a Phenom II X6 rig, but the Phenom II X6s were at least $200-ish! Wouldn't have been surprised if they were often more than an FX 8350. ...

Re: LG OLED Screen protection remover

QFT, OLED is not LCD!

And to the TV noobs, "LED" doesn't automatically mean LCD with LED backlights, FFS!

Re: Metro Exodus - my system crashed once after 21 hours during exiting to main menu.

About the message of an unexpected reboot, I would disable "fast boot".

Try:

powercfg -H off

Re: Marvell Gigabit controller stuck at 100Mbps

I would be pissed and think of wiping the drive and reinstalling Windows.

Especially Windows 10 with Windows Update errors.

Re: Not Even BCN's Russia Connections Can Top This One - Supermicro S2DGU Build

For me, it's the best on the surface of my desk. I made sure that I don't have to move it too far.

Re: A Colossal HDD Failure

Me being conned? WTF?! In many other regions, they pass off 200 Mbit as something state-of-the-art, reminds me of monitor manufacturers still dragging on with 1080p! 1 Gbps FTTH has been around in...

Re: A Colossal HDD Failure

200Mbps is only 25 MB/s, like a very-late-1990s to early-2000s HDD.
And compared to where I live in the northeast U.S., it looks like you were conned. :( I have 1 Gbps down and 1 Gbps up FTTH.

Re: A Colossal HDD Failure

The new Samsung platter drives are Seagate, IIRC!

IIRC, for drives, except maybe optical drives, Samsung only does solid state drives now.

Re: What TRULY Renders an Operating System Obsolete?

Reminds me of still not being able to pick up a 1440p monitor for $150-ish!
They often still act like 1080p is the best!

Re: What TRULY Renders an Operating System Obsolete?

That message about support being ended, is actually downloaded from Windows Update and thus you don't have to worry about that.
It's like the XP EOL reminder.

Re: HP DV6-6120us blinking cursor on black screen (BIOS ?)

After you fix the BIOS, if you still get that blinking cursor on the top left:

The blinking cursor on the top left, means a corrupted boot sector. You need to wipe the drive.

Re: What TRULY Renders an Operating System Obsolete?

Some people suspect Windows Vista and later, has a secret timebomb that makes Windows disable itself if it can't connect to a specific Microsoft server, after a certain amount of months, even when...

Re: Not Even BCN's Russia Connections Can Top This One - Supermicro S2DGU Build

If anyone is talking about the ones where you move a ball on the top, then I really doubt I will play Halo well! (a.k.a. "marble")

OTOH, I play Halo well with a Logitech G Pro mouse!

And if you...
