Re: First Timer - Mystery capacitor identification

They're made by Nichicon, and you can probably get an exact replacement.

Re: Capacitor replacement of TREAMCAST internal power transformer

Nippon Chemi-Con doesn't make a BF series. I saw those in an EEVblog thread a while back, and the actual brand was next to the date code.

Re: Software writers assuming minimum screen resolution of Full HD?

Nothing has ever been written for 1366x768. It's a terrible resolution that shouldn't exist. When the standard aspect ratio was 16:10, even cheap laptops and monitors had higher resolutions. When...

Re: AMD wins!

I still have everything I mentioned except the P5A. I now have a second K6-2/500 in a Compaq with an SiS 5598 chipset. It's even slower (mostly because of the early chipset integrated graphics), but...

Re: AMD wins!

My K6-2/500 on an Asus P5A motherboard was slower than a 333MHz Pentium II in most applications, but it was stable. That was the first computer I had that didn't crash.

I also had a Cyrix MII-333...

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage

I think Tayeh just rebranded other random crap. I've seen some that looked like GSC caps and some with other series and date code markings that I don't recognize. I have a modem with Tayeh caps that...

Re: AMD wins!

The list of affected CPUs includes CPUs without HT.

I have two affected CPUs. One is a Core i5 without HT, and the other was always unusually slow in every application except benchmarks.

Re: Inspiron 530 bios dump needed

I think you're supposed to enter the MAC address from the original BIOS (or a label on the board if the original BIOS is completely unreadable).

Re: Computer jobs that are like kicking yourself in nuts.

Repairs for other people suck for me. They blame me and then tell me that I don't know what I'm doing.

Laptop repairs suck because it's hard to find good parts. I got a lot of used, broken, and...

Re: Infinity PS-12 Powered Subwoofer Fired Amplifier

The last few pictures show a hole burned in the board under the blown cap. You have to load the last seven pictures.

Re: Nichicon radials without the X vent?

Caps that small won't have vents.

Those look like either USV (25V) or USF (16V) series.

Re: X-Force 200 "Power Supply"

Yes, there isn't much that can fail in a way that trips a safety device.

It also tests your body's tolerance of 120V.

Re: X-Force 200 "Power Supply"

That website looks like it was written by a 12-year-old in 1997.

It's still better than the power supply. If you're extremely lucky, it's a circuit breaker tester.

Re: need a cap expert to identify unknown caps on Asus Strix card

They might be custom parts with different print colors. Some motherboard manufacturers do that.

I think it's time to post mine.

My main computer (which I never talked about because it's everything people hate - Intel CPU, Gigabyte motherboard, and Seagate hard drive) runs Windows 10 now.

My previous main system now dual...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Now you get a big block of metal (low surface area) with a plastic cover (blocking airflow) for looks.

Anyway, that's a nice Xeon system.

Re: Soldering station thoughts and guidelines

I've heard from coworkers that the new Pace is even better than the JBC, but I haven't used one. I did get to use a JBC, and it is nice. I use a Metcal at work now, and I don't like the way the tips...

Re: JBL Car Amp Culb-4505 going into protective mode shut down

What size are the old ones?

I see two sizes of snap-in caps. It looks like the two bigger ones are 2200F 80V and the smaller ones are 3300F 35V.

Those Yuscon datasheets are really confusing....

Re: Supermicro P6DGU Retro Build

That's a nice system.

It was completely dead, and the main processor got extremely hot.

This was a GP5-200. It didn't have that PSU adapter. It also had the cover plate over the rear fan...

Those Gateway cases are nice, but the "mini-tower" I had (the same size as a standard ATX tower today) used a proprietary power supply (even though there was room for a standard ATX PSU). It was a...
