Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

You should have seen the grin that appeared on my face after hearing that Netserver boot. That was so cool. Upload more!

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Found this beautiful beast at Goodwill for $2.99
What a deal! These were hard to find in Black, and it's in really good shape. I brought it into work to show off and use as my main work keyboard...

Re: Hard drive reliability

I think they got the name "DeathStar" a little unfairly. I know they can't handle shock as much because of their glass(?) platters, but they prove to be dependable drives. If anyone here is...

Re: Hard drive reliability

Wow! Some high POH hard drives in here. I have found the 7200.7 to be pretty reliable, as well as WD Black. Hitachi drives also hold up well.

I have a 160GB 7200.7 that I think is finally on its...

Re: Dell Optiplex GX 150

That's good to hear....I have a P3 board that actually uses PW on the board and they're from early 2000. I decided not to replace them. I will wait till they fail...They have over 60,000 hours on...

Re: Dell Optiplex GX 150

15 years? Interesting, because so many CRTs last forever. I've also pulled VRM high 1500F 16V nichicon PW from a S478 board; the ESR was low and the capacitance was within 5% of original spec. They...

Re: Dell Optiplex GX 150

Good...That's all I care about :) So then if it works I'd probably have to remove the IHS. I tried just to see and it was too tall to have the heatsink clamp down. Has anyone removed one before?

Re: Dell Optiplex GX 150

It's an 815E chipset. So it looks like it does support some Tualatin CPUs but doesn't show support for the 512k cache CPUs.

I intentionally put the wrong series to see if you were still on...

Dell Optiplex GX 150

A sweet dumpster find! How could someone just dump a perfectly good P3 system here?! As you can see, there are Boeing stickers on this. This was at one point used by a Boeing employee and...

Re: Hard drive reliability

I'd be curious to know how accurate this is!

What were the POH on the SCSI drives you've seen?
And yeah warranty says a lot about a company's faith in their product lol
They've all seemed to...

Hard drive reliability

I have a shit ton of used hard drives, most of them working. I love checking the POH, age at time of failure, etc.

I have noticed that old drives are MILES better than the garbage being pumped...

Re: The CHEAPEST PSU eBay had to offer.

Hahaha. To a certain point. I too really like "simple" I think the Macron MPT units are the absolute best when it comes to simple and stable/reliable. I would also like to throw Sun Pro in that list...

Rosewill Glacier 600M (Awesome eBay score!!!)

Here's a PSU I hunted off of eBay. $19 with free shipping. Was described "AS IS for parts ONLY!" He posted something like "I can see a wire just floating in there, that might be the issue." I figured...

Re: The CHEAPEST PSU eBay had to offer.

:jawdrop: That thing might not even be in spec above 50W load. What's the brand of the fan? Does it use an IC for 5VSB? I once saw a similar piece of junk that actually used a no name 8 pin IC for...

Re: Older AmigA A2000 Power supply repair

For something so old, I would carefully check all of the solder joints first thing to look for cold or cracked joints

Re: Caps choice

Don't use the TK caps. They'd probably throw the whole feedback loop out of whack. KZE are great for PSU. FM should be okay on the 12V since the ESR isn't that high at 1200F, although that is pretty...

Re: Bestec ATX-300-12Z with NO bad C36

Check the 5VSB output diode. I had a unit once that would give ~5V on the 5VSB but would not power up. Pulled out that output diode and it tested bad. Believe it or not, I've also had a Bestec unit...

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage

These poor Panny caps...They are FJ series. They are on the VRM out of a Phenom CPU that has never been cleaned. Since the dust is covering the heatsink, the CPU fan was revving up really high and...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Check out this nonsense! I spotted this after testing the PSU. It powered up just fine. When I carefully removed the screw, the Y cap lead instantly broke! It was melted to the Y cap, so I can't...
