Re: Mother board version issue ms-7184

I suppose I am a little late to this thread.

I have both the MSI MS-7184 (Amethyst M-GL6E) and the MS-7191 (RS482M4-ILD), as shown here (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=63164) and...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Good enough for DOS games, though. :D
And if you really want to push it towards "bleeding edge" gaming, I think that PC just might have enough grunt to barely run Half-Life or Counter-Strike (1.5...

Re: Microwave Issue

You can check the high voltage with a regular multimeter if you build a proper resistor divider circuit.

Assuming the output voltage should be around 2000V, ten 100 kOhm resistors in series will...

Re: SMPS low Vout

Looks like 0.1 uF to me as well. If it's a tiny SMD ceramic cap, and you want to replace it with same, then get a dead PCI-E video card. The small ceramic caps near the PCI-E slot are always 100 nF...

Re: Dell model L275E-01 pn: Wu142. Optiplex 755 small form factor.

+1

Since this is an APFC unit, first check the input fuse for continuity, along with the input inrush NTC/thermistor. If the APFC is faulty, one of those usually goes with it.

If these are both...

Re: Dell 2700w j728n 3kVa UPS not starting

This is why I hate working on other people's "repairs". No idea what the original problem was and no idea what has been done to the unit.

On that note, since this is a Dell unit.... I very...

Re: OCZ Fatality 700w PSU Repair Help

It's possible that the 16V cap was used on the 5V rail as well. I know Enermax did that in some of their units (they used 16V/2200 uF caps for everything, as it was probably cheaper to buy the same...

Re: Dell (Huntkey) PSU randomly shuts off/won't power on.

Also check all of the output R-C snubber networks (one across each rectifier, typically).

If that's not it, perhaps the inductor core is cracked? I have a Corsair CX750M that also has this problem...

Re: GA G31M-S2L NO DISPLAY restart loop .

I imagine you tried different (and known good) RAM modules? Also, just try only one RAM module at a time in either slot. It's possible the RAM slot contacts could be a bit oxidized and thus not...

Re: Rubycon MCZ compatibles

Only bested by Nichicon HZ... but such small difference isn't really that important.

I agree with regards to using polymers on the GX270. I did one myself like that a long time ago, along with...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Aw poor TC, I feel so bad for your "insignificant" find . :D

Silly jokes aside, it's interesting to note this case has two front USB ports. I suppose it's not that old then - possibly...

Re: Directly replacing NiMh cells with Li-Ion cells - bad idea ?

Maybe the batteries burned so bad there was no evidence left of what caused the fire? :D

Re: The hard drive failure thread

Oh, I have one of those as well. This was one of the WD HDDs on which cleaning the contacts did *not* work (HDD still clicked the same afterwards.)

So tinning the pads will by no means revive...

Re: Directly replacing NiMh cells with Li-Ion cells - bad idea ?

Well, yes and no (to all that). :D I mean, I would have probably done the same too, up to a point. But if I see someone is doing something stupid, I'd always offer to lend them a hand, even if it's...

Re: The hard drive failure thread

No, that's not how PSUs and power work at all!

For starters... NEVER trust the motherboard voltage sensors - at least for the ones that directly measure the PSU's rails. The only voltage sensor I...

Re: Axle typhoon ax-p400l (400W) PSU Dead

Those are all for the main PS. You need not worry about them now. First, you need to get the 5VSB circuit running. Otherwise nothing else will work in the PSU. The SG6105 PWM chip is supplied power...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

As in, it trips the PSU's short-circuit / overload / overpower protection?
If so, that's probably a shorted MOSFET... and likely a result of bad GPU.
Check GPU V_core and RAM Vdd rails resistance...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Yup, that's modern nVidia for you. I never get any luck reviving those, so I don't even try anymore. Not that ATI is much much better.... but at least with the older stuff (R300 all the way up to...

Re: Gigabyte GA-586DX Retro Goodness

I never got into strategy games. Not my cup of coffee I guess (well, I don't drink coffee to begin with. :D )

I'm surprised how well that game looks on a big modern monitor, though. Many games...

Re: Help identifying a chip

Did you conclude you have a "bad" reading because the MOSFET was showing low resistance from Drain to Source? Or Drain to ground? If so, that is actually normal for certain video card MOSFETs. Reason...

Re: Replacing faulty RAM on video cards?

The days of 3.3V-powered RAM are long gone. Also, cards that use DDR RAM typically feed it 2.5-2.6V. So there should be a voltage regulator on the board.

Speaking of which...
U3 and U4 are the...

Man, this thread is too funny! :D
Glad you're sharing this story ("repair"?) with us, Danny. :)

LOL. Probably because it makes too much sense. :D

A fairly easy alternative method would have...

Re: Need Catalyst 15.6 for Win 7 x86-64

I usually use FileHippo to find older versions of ATI and nVidia drivers.

But this time, I wasn't able to find exactly what you were looking for (ATI Cat. 15.6). Strange. Normally they keep many...

Re: Replacing faulty RAM on video cards?

Because in 99.9% cases, any kind of graphical anomalies are a result of GPU chip failure and not the RAM. The RAM actually rarely fails. And if it was the RAM, sometimes you can verify that by...

Re: Help identifying a chip

Afraid I can't help with finding what that chip is (my research for these things is not so good).

That aside, if this chip is for an ATI Radeon HD, R7/9, or RX graphics card with shorted...
