Re: YSUS EBR73561201 clicking off on a LG 60PV400

Checked them all. Last time some were bad, but not this time. I notice VSC is only 12v. Possibly it would be higher if I wasn't using the lightbulb limiter, but definitely still quite low.

Re: YSUS EBR73561201 clicking off on a LG 60PV400

Good job! I found two bad resistors, and two more bad FGPF4633s on the Y smd Z boards, but I still have a short somewhere on the Y. I use a lightbulb in series with VS ro limit current so I don't...

Re: Plasma logic board and "Test mode"

As far as a panel test goes, I don't think it matters if your TV is PAL or NTSC. I've attached a datasheet for a model which uses that logic board. Details are on page 5.

Re: Plasma logic board and "Test mode"

They just cheaped out on putting the pin headers in. Jumper 3-4.

Re: YSUS EBR73561201 clicking off on a LG 60PV400

I'm working on the exact same board right now. I fixed it before and it worked for 6 months. Check all the RF2001 diodes . Some are attached to heat sinks, a couple aren't. When I fixed this before,...

Re: Y sustain keeps blowing FETs ? (LG)

Yeah, that's the crazy part. You replace some bad FETs, and some other ones somewhere else on the board blow. It's like how lightning never strikes twice in the same place. They certainly are...

Re: Vizio M422i-B1 boot loop.

Well, at this point I'm pretty much convinced the eMMC has failed. After a lot of research, I attempted to reverse engineer the pinout and see if I could extract the firmware image. I was able to...

Re: Y sustain keeps blowing FETs ? (LG)

You can use a light bulb in series with the VS to limit the current. That will usually save the FETs. I'd say probably 100 watt. I tried a 60w tonight and still blew a FET, but 1 is better than 6. I...

Re: 10 hours lost because stupid laptop wouldn't boot! GRRR!

Lol, perhaps, but I'd say this is a situation which should be expected to occur.

Re: 10 hours lost because stupid laptop wouldn't boot! GRRR!

I think I might have figured it out. I was trying to figure out why an eMMC wasn't being detected and ran sudo tail -f /var/log/syslog. What I saw was a steady stream of error messages, like hundreds...

Re: How to Recondition (Reform) Electrolytic Capacitors and Why

I had to open one to fix it once and was surprised to see it was just a mini SMPS. Since then, I've modified several, including one from a Nintendo DS which now provides 3.3 volts to a bluetooth...

Re: 10 hours lost because stupid laptop wouldn't boot! GRRR!

I agree they can be useful. I'll probably make a script to delete entries more than x days old or something.

I'm wondering if it would have eventually started. I waited about 15 minutes, then...

Re: How to Recondition (Reform) Electrolytic Capacitors and Why

Nice write up. You could also crack your power adapter open and add a potentiometer to the feedback circuit of the PWM so you could then adjust the duty cycle to get different output voltages.

10 hours lost because stupid laptop wouldn't boot! GRRR!

Woke up this morning ready to get some work done, and the laptop was frozen. Tried everything, and ultimately had to hard reset. And then I got the dreadful blank screen with the little blinking dash...

Re: Y sustain keeps blowing FETs ? (LG)

One thing I learned a while back is that some boards will blow FETs if you don't put all the screws back in when remounting the board, and it was an LG I was working on. The thought process was, "I...

Re: Vizio M422i-B1 boot loop.

Here's the response I got from Vizio support. Basically generic, nothing model specific, and none of it worked. Maybe some of this may be useful for other models we encounter in the future though. At...

Re: Vizio M422i-B1 boot loop.

What I read on their website is that VIA TVs are only updated through the internet.

Edit: It's certainly a good suggestion. I opened a support case with Vizio. We'll see what they say.

Vizio M422i-B1 boot loop.

I got this from a friend and he said it had been unplugged during an update and when plugged back in it was stuck in this boot loop. It gets to the V logo, then the panel cuts off and it starts over....

Free DVD player from a scrap TV/DVD combo!

I've had a couple of these sitting on my bench for months (maybe years). I had noticed one of the connectors had Pb, Pr, and Y, which refers to component video, and thought that someday I'd see if I...

Re: Emulating a main board CPU.

Well, I figured out how to enable UART. It's in the service menu. I haven't tried it yet. I've spent days trying to get Avast's decompiler installed on Kali Linux, and still no luck. I get past one...

Re: Emulating a main board CPU.

I had been reading this and that's what got me thinking about obfuscation.
