Re: AMD / ATI A8-6410 with R5 Graphics - GPU gives Code 43

Looks highly likely that they screwed up the inf files! Highly likely missing hardware id in those infs.

Re: Topcat's Weird Pentium Pro Builds

Did you test them with Prime95? It's easy to think they're stable when not using Prime95 then when the Prime95 test is running, boom! An error is scrolled or you get a Windows error or it just...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Does that include 2009, with their Athlon II-based CQ61 as well?
Because the one that I worked on, was shit!

Re: Rubycon series MHZ ?

Reminds me of MFZ on XBox motherboards. But I thought I possibly saw one of those on a non-Microsoft motherboard.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

My Q6600 needed 1.39 V at 3.2 for Linpack to pass, but Prime95 on blend mode, failed with a bus error-related WHEA BSOD! So, it was time to crank up the FSB termination voltage! But that wasn't...

Re: Topcat's Weird Pentium Pro Builds

IIRC, from the horses mouth, (Intel) the floating point bug only exists in Pentium 100s and earlier, except for possibly the 120s.

Looks like it was fixed by the time the 133 consumer chips came...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Bingo! (At least for the fact that you have a Q9650)
Back in 2016, I think I got a Q9450 or something like that and even for that one, based what I saw for test reports, it would embarrass an OC'ed...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

But, at least, it's a Wolfdale! (IIRC) (45nm lithography) 45nm Core 2s aren't the power hog that 65nm Core 2 Quads were!

Don't like that Wolfdale? Then try to get at least an E8400, but if...

Re: Major firmware bug found in Hewett Packard Enterprise SSDs!

The failure rate is at an absurdly low rate, even for consumers! :gtfo:

Exclamation Major firmware bug found in Hewett Packard Enterprise SSDs!

Over at bleepingcomputer .com, IIRC, I saw a report of a major Hewett Packard Enterprise (HPE) whoops! It's a major firmware bug that causes their SSDs to become bricked at 32,768 hours!

Re: Yamaha Electric Piano CLP550 no keyboard output

Interesting that I have yet to hear about something like this with PC BIOS ROMs.

I'm actually more worried about SSDs right now! I had one where I think there was sudden and silent data...

Re: IP version 6

The only possible real-deal show-stopper I can see right now, is software compatibility, even if IPv6 existed as far back as 2003!

Re: Just when you thought polymers gave a PC eternal life! - The GX745 SFF Calamity!

What about the things that appear to be special cases, where an earlier socket 462 motherboard's BIOS reports "Unknown CPU", "Unknow CPU" or a similar string and seems to work fine?

I do know...

Re: Just when you thought polymers gave a PC eternal life! - The GX745 SFF Calamity!

Is the microcode really any different than a 65nm Duo? The big problem with Kentsfield, is that they use a lot of watts per clock. A motherboard that does fine with a 65nm Duo, could have...

Yes, they're the worst offenders of panel driver failures, if not also deep into the panel!

Re: My MacBook A1278 shuting down on every posibile loading bar with apple...

For other laptops, a shutdown means core temps too high. (or FET temp being too high) And CPU at 100 percent, might mean throttling because of critical CPU core temp.

OTOH, a panic is more likely...

Re: Yamaha Electric Piano CLP550 no keyboard output

If your photo was how it originally was, then IC8 looks a lot like it was manufactured a bit later than the others of the three. (9022) (The others are 9018)
Looks like of the three, they were...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Sounds like it was a better K6-2 setup than I had!

It shan't ever had acted like I was overclocking too much, just because it got warm inside the case. It was at the rated frequency, when it was...

Re: Just when you thought polymers gave a PC eternal life! - The GX745 SFF Calamity!

Sounds just like my GeForce GTX 960!
I must crank up that squirrel cage fan, or it will easily reach 80 C or similar!
(I turned up the fan with MSI AfterBurner, IIRC)
