I searched for diameter previously and there is no cap smaller in diameter than 8mm in a low ESR 105C format. So the difference between 18mm and 12mm doesn't factor in.

Your original Nichicon choices would have probably worked fine, but folks here are more exact. Panasonic FC is fine.

Yes, it means 1000 hours at 105C. I believe the math is for every 10C increase in temp, the lifespan decreases by 1/2. Conversely, for every 10C decrease in temp, lifespan increases by 2x.

I was in your shoes about 1 month ago having never soldered and now I have repaired 5 monitors and counting.

If you can borrow the iron, 3 caps will definitely cost less than $5 if you can get...
