Re: Coil whine on old PWS-865-PQ (Supermicro 865W PSU)

I have several of this model that do this in standby...for years....it apparently just what they do....they've always been solid.

Re: The (now the death of) Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

Some more tinkering..... This project is in its infancy, there's a long way to go...

...but anyway, a recapped & modified small (200w) ATX PSU. This will function as the main/standby PSU to...

Re: The (now the death of) Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

Despite its good condition, too much was missing from it....mainly the OS HDD and its proprietary Dolby software, which impossible to find....albeit the USB license key was still there. Also missing...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I picked up yet some more of those silly Nobilis C2-era systems, I've got to have 50 of them now.

Several new-old-stock Coolermaster 400W PSU's

and the pick of the litter, rescued from a...

Re: The Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

Re: The Dolby DP600 Build (OK, this one is BEYOND COOL)

Anyone remember this corny build?

...and I ended up gutting it... As much fun it was to build, it never got used as the NAS it was originally intended, as the NAS I have is far better...and was...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

I thought RS's were discontinued....I haven't been able to get them since Joe Lo (bigpope) went MIA. I do like the specs of the KZN better for sure though.

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

I just dissected a Zippy / emacs (model R2W-6500) for another project I'm working on, there's quite a few KMG's in it. It's probably circa 2010 (it was running a 5400 series Xeon system). It's a...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I'd do it perhaps in an effort to recover data for a client....but I don't think I'd ever trust the drive enough to use it again.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I've seen that done....seemed a lot of effort for a drive that's worth maybe $2 on a good day...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

This PSU has to be a good 15yrs old....I don't think it would qualify as 'modern'...

Re: "Pop"

Taco Bell doesn't bother me either....but it's very seldom I eat at fast food places.

Like the old saying goes: "Life isn't like a bowl of cherries, it's more like a jar of Jalapenos -- what you...

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

I'll measure them when I pull them. Some haven't bloated.

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

The height doesn't really matter, plenty of clearance....the diameter is what mattered, they're packed in there crazy tight.

Re: 4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

digikey is annoying me in that the 4700uf zlq didn't show up when I searched. I also never knew there was a KMG 3300uF 16v 10mm X 40mm that wasn't a special order. I love learning things!! :D

4700uF 6.3v and 3300uF 16v in a 10mm Diameter

Where can I get them these days? My usual sources are a no go in a 10mm, 12.5mm is too big. I'm recapping an old Antec rackmount PSU for a client (SmartPower SP2-450SXR) with a bunch of spooged...

Re: "Pop"

PSU would be my guess.... Caps and transistors like to pop.

Motherboards can pop for sure....but the PSU is always suspect # 1.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Most Pentium classic era chipsets supported 512mb~1gb RAM....but the reason I didn't promote sizes that high, do any of you remember what RAM cost back then?

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

If back in the day, anyone brought me a win95/98 machine to work on with less than 32mb RAM, I forced an upgrade on them to atleast 32 (although I'd try to get them up to 64 or 128)....or I just...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

It's miserably farking slow. It'd be fine for just file storage....but run a bloated OS from it (Win10 2004) and barf-o-rama! I have a 240gb SSD with Mint on it that was left over from a M6400 I...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Picked up another m6400 on the cheap the other day. C2D @ 2.8 (will swap it out for a QX9300 @ 2.53, fastest C2Q this can take). Has 8gb RAM and a really slow scorpio blue 500gb GB HDD. The 8gb...
