Re: Long charging period of a capacitor

testing in circuit or out of circuit? You should be testing out of circuit and if it still does this out of circuit, this is caused by leakage current (not electrolyte leakage.)

Re: Mobility Scooter PSU

Usually when the fuse blows, the transistor on the "top" heatsink on your 20181011_150641_resized.jpg picture and the small SOIC 8-pin on the "bottom" of picture 20181011_150648_resized.jpg have...

Re: Help with a car lighter inverter

You need a 20 amp supply to run the inverter at peak load. The inverter without a load should at least start up with a lower supply after it charges the capacitors. The 80W inverter I ninja posted...

Re: Help with a car lighter inverter

I think he's using the power supply to power the inverter so he doesn't have to test in a car or whatnot. In any case it sounds like something's still shorted, check the other MOSFETS to make sure...

Re: Repair Vintage DC Power Supply, Sorensen DCR-B series 2700-Watt 600-4.5B

So what are and you aren't seeing? When the voltage is set to 600V, you get what out?

Also note as this is regulated by TRIAC (SCRs, actually) the slew rate is really slow on downslope compared...

It looks like it had been abruptly ... terminated...
Probably a scrapper getting the most copper from disposed-of electronics :(
Makes me sad...

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit

But there's nothing that dictates that the 8051 needs to be run at 12MHz, that clock would run fine at some other frequency. Software of course needs to be changed to accommodate, but so be it......

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit

Usually those micro tactile pushbutton switches have two pairs of leads that are connected together without pressing the button, so measure out the two pairs of pins that are connected, and have...

Re: The ghetto mod thread

Yeah I was worried about that, but fortunately lucked out probably because of the size of the screen. Also the LED was a "flood" versus a "spot beam" LED (you can tell by the distance between the...

Re: The ghetto mod thread

This actually is not a "ghetto" mod but I didn't want to make another thread. Maybe it's a ricer mod, but that backlight is sorely needed on this old HT 2m ham radio. In any case the 30mA...

Re: Retrofitting PL/CTCSS into old radios...

Oh stooge, I *knew* something was fishy with a circuit in the radio. Yup, it looks like Kenwood did build in a simple tone generator after all, much like what I had built externally :duh: - after...

Here is the final!
No there is no different voltage options, so this is it.

Re: Need cheap multimeter fuse: buy or jury rig?

Passive battery power draw of micropower circuits meant to be continually powered with alkaline cells without battery swaps?

1mA draw is too much for these applications, they must be no more than...

Re: Need cheap multimeter fuse: buy or jury rig?

Yes, though never playing with those clamp on DC probes, I would think that milliamp range would suffer from inaccuracy, but is it so bad it won't reliably measure the difference between say, 15mA...

Re: Need cheap multimeter fuse: buy or jury rig?

I've always wondered, what's the resolution of those dc clamp meters, will they go down to 50 microamps?

Re: Need cheap multimeter fuse: buy or jury rig?

3.93 GBP times exchange rate... yeah still kinda pricey.

Fuses in general are annoyingly expensive, I really wonder based on them being consumables should they cost as much as they do?

Re: Need cheap multimeter fuse: buy or jury rig?

This fuse is for current reading only, however, and I do need to read current. Voltage and resistance aren't affected by the lack of the fuse... The meter is my highest resolution meter so I do...

Re: Need cheap multimeter fuse: buy or jury rig?

I honestly don't believe these fuses should be that expensive, probably just economies of scale that's killing people who kill their fuses :-(

I guess the question is: are there any other crosses...

Re: Need cheap multimeter fuse: buy or jury rig?

The reason why I was thinking about cheaping out is that at most I'd be using this device at 240V (through the step up transformer) and even then most of the times I'd be less than 30VDC. In fact I...

Need cheap multimeter fuse: buy or jury rig?

Uhoh. I really DON'T want to jury rig this safety device but I'm cheap but still need a solution.

Well. I burned my 4A 600V 10mm x 38mm fast acting fuse in my 4 bench multimeter. So current...

Honestly FCC doesn't care.

However your neighbors do. If you're reducing the enjoyment of other peoples' enjoyment of RF services, this is a problem. The FCC was made to allow others who can no...
