Re: BFG Tech. GeForce FX5200 [ASLM52256] – full recap info and cooler mod

Yes, I saw that same PCB I posted above on a number of FX 5200 and FX 5500 cards from different manufacturers.

According to GPUreview.com pictures, the following cards use this same exact PCB (or...

Re: Videoton VT-110, XT clone PSU repair

^ I like it. Very basic delay circuit (RC low-pass driving a transistor), but it should work fine. :)

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Some of my latests *cheap* (-ish) scores :D :

Gigabyte Radeon HD5830 1GD5 for $10 - haven't tested, but was told it works, and likely it does.

Gigabyte Radeon HD6850 1GD5 for $12 shipped to my...

Re: Raidmax RX-600 ringing noise and 0ms PG

Yes, very true.
However, I do like the simple OEM 200-350W ATX PSUs that come with OEM machines, like Dell, HP, and etc. (so typically dealing with Delta, LiteOn, HiPro/Chicony, and Bestec PSUs.)...

Re: Raidmax RX-600 ringing noise and 0ms PG

That's all I had on hand. :D Well, four of them, actually - came out of some industrial A/C board along with a few other goodies. The board was smashed to pieces in several places, but the caps were...

Smile BFG Tech. GeForce FX5200 [ASLM52256] – full recap info and cooler mod

The more time passes, the more nostalgic I get with old hardware. Video cards and motherboards tend to be my weak spot. As such, I often scavenge eBay for old PC hardware, especially anything with...

Post BFG GeForce 7300 GT AGP [BFGR73512GT]

I’m back! :D
Been busy lately with my new job and also spending most of my free time building up computers with some of the junk I’ve accumulated through the years. But none of that has stopped me...

Re: Cable Modem Repair - Why Do They Fail?

Late reply, I know... but still.

+1

I see electrolytic caps on the SMPS and even a few on the modem board PCB. If any of these are bad, that could well be the issue. I haven't ever had a...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Very interesting PSU, indeed.
Probably uses some kind of resonant LC topology, thus allowing it to have a very small transformer. Some PS3 PSUs were done that way, IIRC. Synchronous rectification...

Re: Post your system.......

... Oh yeah, I remember that box. It was quite popular in gaming PC mags back in the mid-2000's. How is the quality of that case? Good? Bad? Somewhere in between? The front cover on the bottom looks...

Re: Videoton VT-110, XT clone PSU repair

Looks very good so far!

And I bet they still work and haven't blown their primary cap, like some modern units do nowadays.

That's the nice thing about old PSUs, isn't it - always...

Re: Different primary capacitors in ATX Power Supply

By reducing the size... you mean resistance?

If you reduce the resistance, then the voltage across the caps may indeed balance a little better. But you can't solely rely on that to...

Re: Shuttle XPC SD30G2B (FD30 motherboard)

Yes, black lead on multimeter goes to ground / black wire of PSU. And red lead you measure whatever voltage you're after.

Post a picture of the board here. Should be able to help you find some of...

Re: Raidmax RX-600 ringing noise and 0ms PG

Yup, that's how it works indeed.
Bad comes to worse, it shouldn't be too hard to build your own delay circuit. Something like an RC circuit and an amplifier or shunt circuit to trigger past a...

Re: LPK12-450W safety capacitor shorted

In that case, if you're just going to use the PSU for occasional testing, then you might as well remove those caps altogether. As mentioned, they are for noise and ripple suppression on the line....

Re: Bypassing Passive PFC In ATX Power Supplies

No, that would be APFC which puts more stress on the primary caps.

PPFC (large line-connected inductor) *shouldn't* put more stress on any of the primary components. However, the reasons I say...

Re: PS pcb 50418e1 rev 1.b

Sounds like the PSU is trying to start and then cutting off, restarting, and trying again. So you might want to check the secondary-side driver transistors (the two TO-92 units by the small...

Re: Videoton VT-110, XT clone PSU repair

Nice repair/restoration. Really great to see an old PSU like that brought back to life. :)

If you need more AT PSUs let me know. I do have an old Astec that's built like a tank. Not sure if it...

Re: Different primary capacitors in ATX Power Supply

No, you can mix and match there. I've seen it done and generally it doesn't cause problems. But you'd have to be careful that the capacitance of the two caps is within 20% of their (identical) rated...

Re: Raidmax RX-600 ringing noise and 0ms PG

If the fan had failed and unit overheated, replace ALL the caps, regardless of size. This being an APFC PSU, probably also a good idea to replace the main cap too. I see it's a cheapo brand anyways,...
