Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I found a few older PCs today, the first one is a Gateway PC with an Intel Celeron processor, i need to pop it open and test it to see what the other specs are. The second one is a heavy Dell PC with...

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage

Some caps from a grab bag; a (brand new) Samxon GF 47uf 25v that is blown out the bottom. A Rubycon MFZ 680uf 4v cap that is bulging (tests at 230uf). and a Samxon cap with a heat shrink error...

Re: ISO Model: ISO-400 350w PSU

I tend to make super obvious mistakes if i'm left here for too long, something that a lot of people here must have seen first hand at some point, i try my best for it not to happen, but it still...

Re: $20 "500W" PSU From MicroCenter, how bad can it be?

My Raidmax PSU (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=896513&postcount=1556) has a single toroid for all three major rails, i wonder if they played a part in the making of this thing. :/

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Some notes i forgot to add to the main post due to time restrictions: The main control IC is a TL494L PWM controller with a TP3510 supervisor IC.
All of the wires are 20AWG, with an exception for...

ISO Model: ISO-400 350w PSU

Hello, I've been wanting to show this PSU for a while, but have not due to a mix of laziness and fear that i would once again make a fool of myself. But excuses aside here is a look inside a NOS ISO...

Re: BFG Tech BFGR550WGSPSU [LW6550SE Rev. K] recapping & modding

This is the second time I've seen an overheated 120mm Yate Loon fan (the first time being in this Rhino PSU (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=826475&postcount=1466)), I wonder if the...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

Isn't the MS605D the 60V 5A version? I'm also wondering if i could use this in series with another identical power supply to get a higher voltage (i have two of these things, the second one was a...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

It's not how long i had them in storage, it's how long the store (that i bought them from) had them in storage. But i reformed them (according to the instructions i found online) and they seem to...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

So i went and found some 51Ω resistors and some IRF840A's from the surplus store, threw them into the power supply, tested it, and it appears to be fully working as now when its set to full power it...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

The resistors are both blown open, or at least have a resistance greater than 10MΩ. I'm going to see if my local electronic surplus store has any 47Ω SMD resistors and IRF840 MOSFETs (to replace the...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

If i were to replace both 47Ω resistors, will this thing start working again? As far as i can tell, they are the only components that are still blown. So if i were to replace both of them, this...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

Tested, and it's roughly 500mV, or roughly the same voltage as i was able to get on the output with both IRF840's replaced (see post #9 for more info)...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

On the other heatsink is a P75NF75 and an STTH1602CT, i haven't tested either of them since i don't think they would have been damaged.

I did not notice R2, but it's definitely blown, the...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

So i decided to try swapping the MOSFETS with what i have for testing (which in this case, were 2 K3568's (which i know may not be ideal in this thing)) and the PSU almost worked, the only issue is...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

This looks like an Athena Power unit, definitely better than the one i pulled about 2 years ago as yours seems to have more room for modifications.

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

I guess i'll add a replacement driver chip to the shopping cart, just in case, will a KA7500C do as Digikey will only sell KA7500B chips in cases of 1500 (from what i can tell, the C variant is just...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

It does appear the gate and drain pins are shorted, out of curiosity, how does this kill the chip?, as i'm looking at this thing and it looks like the chip is driving the MOSFETs through T1, which i...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

How do i test the drive circuitry? as it appears the drive circuitry is driven off its own separate power supply.

The main driver IC is a KA7500B (U4), the other two chips are LM324N (low power...

Re: QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

I was hoping for a bit of help, but i guess i'll try fixing it on my own. I think i'm going to replace both MOSFETs with IRF840BPBF parts, on top of that, i think i'm going to do a recap because, why...

QW-MS3010D 30V 10A Variable PSU Blown MOSFET

Hello again, I have this cheap 30v 10A variable power supply that died about a year ago, the issue with it is that one of the MOSFETs (IRF840) Blew its guts. Now despite this thing being cheap, the...
