Re: Antec EarthWatts EA-430 and EA-500 an easy bad caps fix

Yeah, if you learned the colors for ATX wiring, it's actually just as easy from there. Just look where the cables of each color are soldered and trace it from there (combining visual, and if...

Re: Need Catalyst 15.6 for Win 7 x86-64

Yay, we are back in business baby! Plays L4.1 fine, watching it over Team :D Well it is of course unusable over the remote, but it does play on the computer at least. Gonna try 4k vid too, I am...

Re: HDDs shutting down at 2/3 of the surface when writing on them?

So far I got success with the 250gig 2,5" drive, bypassing the damaged space there is 140GB usable partition good for data and 50GB partition good even for OS for some ages old, slow and cheap system...

Matsushita NXL caps?

Found two old Matsushita NXL caps, 47/35 and 100/16. Seems to be 105C series, likely from early 90s at the latest as it has that white rubber bung (with no canals/openings for washing soldering...

Re: HDDs shutting down at 2/3 of the surface when writing on them?

Kinda difficult when they already are (s)crapped mr. clever! Besides, I really see no reason to differentiate brands and models when clearly DIFFERENT drives from different series and even...

Re: HDDs shutting down at 2/3 of the surface when writing on them?

Yeah, guess what, I am claiming multiple different drives from different series of different manufacturers seem to suffer from this problem:

Maybe, just maybe, you know, like…do your...

Re: HDDs shutting down at 2/3 of the surface when writing on them?

No joy, shuts down in the very same manner. It also couldn't be anything like that mysterious supermagnetism as this bloody 250gig 2.5" drive is way too old with too low capacity per square unit...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

U got a few Sprague, Mallory and others between 30-50 years of age, most of that in use, all of them measure fine, some just seem to need reforming before next use. So I'd say they are damn good...

Re: HDDs shutting down at 2/3 of the surface when writing on them?

Re: HDDs shutting down at 2/3 of the surface when writing on them?

Been using HD Tune, with one of the drives I actually thought it is good and put it in my IBM server (NAS) I just started writing ton of movies onto it.

Most of the bad drives were some 3TB...

HDDs shutting down at 2/3 of the surface when writing on them?

I have been lately experiencing this issue in way too many cases which makes me think this is some kind of new failure mode. Basically especially large-size drives (2+ TB, but also seen that for...

Re: Dell PS-5251-2DFS won't start - no 5VSB

I'd clean it on any feedback components too, even resistance of megaohms applied in parallel to some components can sometimes make the driving circuitry broken.

Re: Dell PS-5251-2DFS won't start - no 5VSB

Yes, it is a second power supply of its own.

Clean all that yellow stuff, it can get corrosive and conductive, and check whether it has not corroded thrugh some resistors already. It's pretty...
