Re: The new HDD overheats in Dell Inspiron 5520

Welcome to modern tech, where things are built down to a price with little or no thought to how they behave in any real world situation. 48C isn't too unusual for a laptop HDD, they do tend to run...

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit

Try it with a 9V battery, it won't need that cap.

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit

Try removing it, its a push to reset switch, if its fitted wrong it could be holding the MCU in reset.

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit

gah, I do wish people would scan circuit diagrams in with enough clarity that its possible to read them. I'm wrong, it DOES need more than the 3V supply, there's 2 VCC rails, one for the MCU, one for...

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit

I assumed that too, but its to be connected through a diode to the vcc supply... unless the MCU has voltage sensing and goes into backup (no display) mode below a certain voltage.

I also notice...

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit

Underneath the cap is a 5V 78L05 regulator. They generally withstand reverse voltage on them for a while. It might be worth trying the circuit without the exploded capacitor, it should work given 8V....

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!

Headphone out seem clean enough, its driven from a separate line drive IC. Plugging in headphones 99% mutes the speakers, but doesn't stop the noise!

I'll try and get the scope out the back of...

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!

Is it "normal" for these 24" sets to have the most annoying and horrible high pitched whine on the speakers? Its only just audible, but its constant and annoying!

I've just peeked at the circuit...

Re: Looking for eeprom dump for VELTECH (and/or POLAROID) LE32GCL-Y

Well, after a lot of playing around with different flash files, I've got what amounts to nowhere. I think its time to give up on this one. :violin:

For any one else reading, attached is the...

T-348 Power Supply - Circuit?

I've had a large and heavy Tait T348 plonked on my desk which looks like its worth trying to fix, its a big linear 15A 13.8V hunk.

There's a few resistors that have fried inside and it seems the...

Re: Relubing fans

And - DON'T just spray WD40 into the fan.. WD40 is NOT a lubricant and it'll destroy any lubricant that is in the sintered bearing, making it impossible to fix.

They're not bad a basic solder station, but, if its the same as the one my mate had, its not true thermostatic. Its just a high-ish powered soldering iron with what is in effect a lamp dimmer...

Re: Identifying Semiconductor manufactures

Ah well, I tried some replacement mosfets in the Foxconn 6150K8MD but the VRM just creeps up to about 0.8V when powered on, so it looks like the control chip (ISL6566) has been fried when the...
