Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

They don't make them like that any more! (or do they?)

Re: Crown Amp DC300A - One channel distirted, other good.

Thanks, that is a lot better than before, but can you try at a higher resolution? 300 dpi? Some of the component values are still hard to read, unfortunately.

Re: Does flux expire ?? Flux discussion.

I kinda think it should be though. We might think it's hilarious, and understand the risks, but some 10 year old could blow themselves up trying it. Not that a dumb adult couldn't either, I suppose,...

Re: Crown Amp DC300A - One channel distirted, other good.

First place I'd be checking is the output pin of that dual opamp, IC1.
Looks like pins 1 and 13 are the outputs. Not sure which channel is which. They seem labeled 1&2 not L&R.

Hard to read the...

Re: Help with dead Commodore 1802

B+ looks like that 121v rail which should be on, if I read it right, C813. 100uF 150v looks like.

Re: Help HP Z440 workstation

Yes, that's what I mean. Move the BIOS reset jumper. Make sure you move it back afterwards.

Can you get the BIOS from HP? Typically they don't go bad by themselves though...

Re: Help with dead Commodore 1802

With something that old, don't forget about cracked solder joints.

Re: Does flux expire ?? Flux discussion.

I think a detergent is used as part of the flux-cleaning process, in industry, too.
The hobbyist can just leave the board outside an ant's nest for a week.

But yeah, some flux is a bit...

Re: Crown Amp DC300A - One channel distirted, other good.

The frequency input in your DMM likely only works at TTL logic levels, e.g. 5v. Check the manual to be sure.

Probably wouldn't work anyway, even if the 1kHz tone gets distorted, it'll still be at...

Yeah, it'll smell alright... when the fat starts rotting :barf:
Beeswax might be better, actually!

Re: Does flux expire ?? Flux discussion.

You'd need a motor controller wouldn't you? The inductive load of the transformer would be bad for a simple Triac dimmer?

Re: Crown Amp DC300A - One channel distirted, other good.

Yeah, that would probably work great with an appropriate probe. Actually I think EA or SC magazine made a kit to do that with an interface box for various attenuation ranges etc.

Re: Crown Amp DC300A - One channel distirted, other good.

Without a scope you can use another amplifier (or build one from something like an LM386) as a signal tracer, then follow the signal through until you find where it becomes distorted.

This would...

Re: Dell D550p Not Starting

Well if the two MOSFET are on that heatsink, maybe the third device is the diode? I can't see anywhere else it might go, then.

I'm guessing the PSU switching transistors are on the far right...

Re: Does flux expire ?? Flux discussion.

I have a little box of that, it was a free gift from UTSource. I heard you're supposed to dissolve it in alcohol and then you can use it. I haven't tried yet. Maybe once my pork lard runs out I'll...

Re: Help HP Z440 workstation

Check BIOS battery is not low, if it is, replace the battery and reset BIOS settings with hardware button or jumper?

Re: Dell D550p Not Starting

Well, at least you can buy that chip at UTSource if it's blown.

Can you post some more photos? Which heatsink has which devices? What are those 3 white things on middle heatsink? I'm guessing...

Re: Crown Amp DC300A - One channel distirted, other good.

You could do diode/resistance tests on all the semiconductors without power on. If something's shorted it will show up.

Re: Crown Amp DC300A - One channel distirted, other good.

Could be a transistor problem, leaky, shorted, missing power rail. Might be better to do symmetrical voltage measurements across channels.

Check for DC offset at outputs first I'm thinking....

Re: Software writers assuming minimum screen resolution of Full HD?

Doesn't surprise me. Try Comodo instead, you don't have to bother with renewal.
