Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

I would suspect the fet on the negative supply is being turned on, thats why I suggested checking the voltage from q501
I would leave q502 out, and check the voltages on q501, look at the pdf for...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

You could check the voltages on Q501 and see what they are but looking at the ic' pdf the voltages on the output side seem to be referenced to com (pin 10)
I'm not sure why there is +2 volts on VS,...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

Q502 only has 5pins :) so I guess you meant pins 4 & 5 or did you mean Q501 pin 14 & 15?

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

You won't get any audio out but I suspect the speaker voltage should be near 0 volts, I could be wrong, It's hard to say how the ciruit will act but I can't see an issue.
The audio drive signal...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

Yes you should be able to operate the sub with Q502, I suggested it in post #3
R433 should be there, I saw the beside it and was'nt sure, but looking at the chart at the bottom of the schematic...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

If you look at the schematic you will see where the ground is. That large black ground line that connects to q501 pin2. There seems to be only one voltage that does not use that ground, that is Q501...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

Not really, Its the transistor before the input to the regulators (q433/434) that turn on with signal and supply the regulator's input.

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

With the sub in standby, only the switching power supply will be working and at a very low power, so those other voltages might be off. since none of the other circuits are drawing current, that cap...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

When you mesured those voltages, did you have audio going to the input? It might be that the voltages were off due to the state of the switching power supply, It was likely in standby.

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

The 8C is the (NJM78L05) Q435 the other one that looks the same will be Q436 and have a 9C (NJM79L05)
The only other thing I can think of that could cause that -12 to be high is that C912 is bad, as...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

What parts can't you find?
and what exactly would be the correct result when measuring a capacitor using diode test?

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

I hope you mean minus 20.7v (!)

across C911 12volts, through r921 & R924 C921 is 12 volts, seems ok and very little current flow so no voltage drop.
Across c912 -20.7 volts, through r922, C922...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

I just wanted to make sure R433/434 were ok as they supply the two 7805 & 7905 regulator ic's
That -9.v volts is low, But it does seem to only supply Q301
It could be due to a bad cap on that line,...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

with no input (standby)
Across C905 will have around +20 volts
from ground, C901 will have +30~+40 volts, C902 will have -30~-40 volts
You will also have +30~40v on R433 and -30~40v on R434. You...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

With no audio input, the sub should be in standby, you need audio input to turn it on, Audio comes into p301, then to c351 and Q301, this ic turns on the amp.
C354 gets charged keeping the amp on as...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

When checking for VAA & VSS, use Q501 pin2 (or negative of C901)
Check if you have + voltage on Q433, emitter (use R433 2watt)
Check if you have - voltage on Q434, emitter (use R434 2watt)
Those...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

The 12 volts comes from Q901 regulator, The input voltage for the regulator is controlled by Q902 (switch) Q903, turns Q902 on when there is audio input.
I will ask again, Where does Q501 get it's...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

If the cone is extending and staying out, that is because there is DC voltage keeping it extended, there should be 0 volts across the speaker. The sub does need an input signal to turn it on (unless...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

If this sub used a regular 60hz power supply that would sounds like a bad main filter cap, but this uses a switching power supply so that should'nt sound like that if the caps were bad

This sub...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

I would see what the voltage is with the speaker connected and if you have any hum. It could be that the 2.3v is due to the lack of a load

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

where? across the speaker? what is in place of the regulators? anything? is Q433(C) connected to VAA
I can't see +/- being off a couple volts being an issue unless the filters C901/902 are bad. Also...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

Thats likely what it should be, When the sub turns on Q902 supplies Q901 regulator and that 12 volt regulator is what supplies the vcc voltage to turn on the amp ic
Earlier when you replaced the...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

I would check for around +15 volts across C905, it needs to be there before you will have the +12 volts from the regulator, Q902 needs to be turned on by Q903.
The IRS2092's VCC is turned on and off...

Re: Onkyo SKW-591 subwoofer is dead

I looked at the schematic again and the +12 VB volt uses -39 volt supply as ground, to check the 12 volts use COM (Pin10) on the ic or measure across C503
The amp ic is used in bi-amp mode, It uses...
